preferably a business that's been around for a while. Moving a piano (or 1100 lbs of speakers in three crates, which was what I needed moved) is not a job for people who don't know what they're doing. It's pretty easy to get yourself killed dealing with such weights.

that's what I kinda guessed. Thanks.
We were looking at some company that started this year (2005!) and didn't exactly give me the greatest feeling after looking at their website. They couldn't even spell license correctly.
I'm thinking we will probably go with the company that has been in business here for 40+ years.

The movers I used have been moving pianos, organs, large home audio speakers, etc for 60 years. That's a pretty good sign of competence.

My Grandmothers baby grand less than 2 miles down the road for 400.00!!
I agree with the post above, find out about insurance and bonding, also find out about their punctuation record. Ask for referrals too. :)

The time we DIDN'T hire one, the piano fell out of a pickup truck
The time we DID, it went well, but it was pricey. About 500. We used a piano company that sells them and delivers them.
