I have Jury Duty tomorrow! Yay Me!

:D I'm sorta not looking forward to it. I had to rush to get everything out of the way at work today. I just finished about 1/2 an hour ago. :P

But it should be interesting. If you've served lately, what was it like?

1. I've always managed to get out of it over the past years

doing the F/T parenting thing helps, in that dept. :)

Good luck! I've been told if you REALLY wanna get out of it, once you're there, just make a point of saying something really outrageous when they come to interview you. That way you'll be weeded out immediately. heheh.

However, I suppose there is something to be said for doing one's "civic duty"....keep us posted, I'll be curious to hear what happens...

I don't mind sitting there for a day or two, but I really don't want a case that's gonna go for more than a week. I'm my sole means of support, so it would really impoverish me to accept that kind of gig.

I'm taking a book and I hope I can just be unobtrusive in the corner.

4. I had jury duty a couple of months ago,

and the summons came while I was out of town for a month. I wrote them a nice letter when I got back, explaining the situation. I still haven't heard anything. I wonder sometimes if they're gonna show up at my house and toss my ass in jail for felony jury duty evasion. :scared:

10. We have a lot of new residents

We are a growing county, so there's lots to choose from besides us established residents.

I've only been back in the area for 9 years, before that I was an appt dweller in various places. I thought it was a fluke the first time I got called. I was only 25.

6. You'll report to the courthouse to the room on your letter.

When you get there, check in. You'll be marked off the list and handed a Juror badge by the clerk. You'll sit in a big room with a TV blaring in the corner (probably CNN), some coffee is available.

I suggest bringing your own coffee and a good book.

After everyone has arrived, you'll ALL see a Charles Kuralt video on Jury Duty and being a good citizen. It's about 15 minutes or so minutes long.

Then the clerk will tell you whether there are any trials on that day for which you may be called.

At that point, you'll either 1. be called into a virtually empty courtroom for possible jury duty, 2. be told no trials on are and let go before noon, or 3. wait around until lunch without anything happening, allowed to go to lunch, come back and possibly be called into a courtroom in the afternoon.

Anyway, take a good book. It'll be interesting. :hi:
