Hey, let's talk about song openings!!!
What are some of your favorite song starts? Music that stops you dead in your tracks, cheers you up, takes you back, gets you hyped, mellows you out, etc. Some of mine:

Ball of Confusion - Temptations
Then He Kissed Me - Crystals
Two of Us - Beatles
Gonna Fly Now (Theme from "Rocky") - Bill Conti
Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones
Memories Are Made of This - Dean Martin
The Last Farewell - Roger Whittaker
Save A Prayer - Duran Duran
Philadelphia Freedom - Elton John
Hooked on a Feeling - Blue Swede
Someday Man - Monkees
My Cherie Amour - Stevie Wonder
What's Happening Brother - Marvin Gaye
Everyday People - Sly & The Family Stone
Let 'Em In - Wings
Precious Things - Tori Amos

1. Zadok the Priest.
Such a long intro, but the slight intricate changes draw one in - until one is hit by a wall of sound when the choir starts to sing.

3. Lots of folk.
It was written by Handel for the coronation of George II, using a text which was far older. It has been used at every British coronation since.

4. Patti Smith's Gloria
Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine. One of my all time favorite lyrics, especially with her delivery

5. Spock's Beard - At The End Of The Day
From the "V" album. The pseudo-orchestra opening is beautiful, but what gets me every time is the first drum fill. Holy crap, it's pure genius.
