I picked up a half dead cat today....it must have been run over
by a car. It was stumbling. I saw it in the street as I went out to walk Slicker. I dragged him back insided, then went and picked up this beautiful black cat...probably a young thing. Laceration on its face, bleeding from it's rear side.
I put it in a soft cloth, and called the animal rescue. They came right away. The cat was rasping as it breathed and the man said it probablyk had internal injuries and it probably wouldn't make it. They were probably going to put it down.

What a sad thing today....

1. Maybe The Cat Won't Make It
But how many people passed by before they gave the cat the first thought?

Do what you can, when you can and cherish what you have.

3. I'm always sad when I see run-over cats.
Being a bicyclist, I see several, every year.

And never see any still alive.

Always breaks my heart.

I actually slugged a guy who bragged to me that he actually AIMS his car at cats on the road!

4. Where are you that you have animal rescue?

My birdie is in the hospital an I'm afraid he's not going to make it. I am so attached to him. My little buddy. The house is so cold and empty without him.

You did a great thing.

6. sorry about your bird.
Hope he pulls through. I have a house full of rescue dogs, three were pulled off the streets in bad shape, the other two were given to me in bad shape and one alleycat that wouldn't leave my sister's apt window. I have 3 wild game birds, (outside); and one of them is not doing well. I know how you feel. My place would be empty without one of them.

5. That must have been tough Gloria.
But if they have to put the kitty down at least you made his last moments less painful. You have a good heart.

7. I'm in Las Cruces, NM--they have been really upgrading the humane
society service here. Now have a vet on staff. I was actually surprised when the man said he lived at the shelter; his wife is the operations manager. I think that's the new woman in charge. I will call tomorrow to find out.

I'm always on the lookout for strays. In fact, a year ago I finally rescued a beautiful min pin who had been roaming for 8 MONTHS! I got up at 5 AM for two weeks, offering food (moving it up the driveway and into the garage). Didn't want to have him adopted out to anyone who might throw him a yard, because he can walk walls! So, I decided to keep him--that's Slicker. He's wonderful. The previous Feb. we adopted a little chi, Tico, who had been found, then brought into the pound and we rescued him as company for our first dog, Toro.

I call them "My 3 Sons"....I love them to death....

Around Labor Day, I got Animal Control to pick up a stray with a lame leg. I thought I had seen him in a yard a few blocks away. I went up and talked to some kids...the family was away. So, on Tues. AM I went back to the house and they were there and I told them where the dog was. They went and got him. Lucky for him it was Labor Day weekend...it gave him an extra day before he would have been put down! They were very grateful and since then, we've become friendly.

The shelter hopes to be no-kill within 5 years. I hope so....
