Poll question: Has anyone ever called you a "commie" to your face?
I wonder how many of us have SERIOUSLY, not as a joke, been called "Commie" or "communist" to our face (not on the internet)..

and been beaten up and spit on too by the some thugs for my beliefs. but called a commie many many times.

Doesn't help matters that I am and actually say thank you when they say that...the incomprehension and then anger that crosses their face is priceless!

2. Yes. The guy that comes to my house for pest control
called me a commie for defending Clinton. I decided to show him I was an authoritarian rat fascist bastard by canceling my contract with his company.

Edited on Mon Dec-01-03 10:08 AM by peekaloo
this crazy bald headed dude drove by, in a big ole Cadillac, and called us all "Commie Pinko Liberals" and told us to go home!

Of course that "crazy" man was HST himself just funnin' with the crowd!

on edit: I worked with a LOT of right wingers in Houston who could not believe I supported any Democratic issue but they never had the cajones to outright call me a Commie to my face......just used that term for the people I supported.

5. I have
and oddly enough it was after preaching a sermon on treating women like human beings. I didn't talk economics at all, so the name-calling was really bizarre.

But then, righties have a tendancy to think that anyone who isn't thinking like them must be communist, since that's the only word they know. It's odd, because I'm very capitalist. Even my freeper friends, who earn less than I do, sometimes call me communist when I say things like "I liked Clinton" or "Women are people" or "Native Americans should be treated be like human beings" or "Athiests aren't de facto evil". None of those have anything to do with economics, so I don't know why they use the pejorative "communist" other than that they don't have any what it means.

But there you go.

6. Yes, some kid in school with me called me a commie for
opposing the Iraq war. Something in me snapped, and I kinda, well, sorta, pinned him to the wall by grabbing his neck. I was very nice about the whole thing, I did let him back down to the ground to get air when he started to turn purple.
I thought that was damn nice of me, don't you?

10. There is just something that aggrivates me about a 28 year-old
who still lives at home and has never been more than 75 miles of where he was born assuming he knows more than me.
It just brought out the Boatswain Mate in me, a beast I thought was long gone.
Guess not.

Really pissed him off, because his parents were German immigrants. I haven't spoken to him in forever, so I don't know what he thinks of the direction his feckless leader is taking us.

11. Yes, indeed; for supporting embryonic stem-cell research
(in fact, I was giving kudos to Orrin Hatch for supporting it) and for supporting UHC.

Pink is a nice color for me--as long as it's muted a bit . . .

12. Many times
Back in high school (vietnam era) I was very interested in the history of Russia/USSR and what was then "Red" China. That earned me many a "commie" citation.

As a generally skeptical citizen, I have been so complimented many times since.

14. A former customer of mine called me a "socialist" in an insulting tone.
Edited on Sun Nov-30-03 09:39 PM by northwest
But he didn't call me a "commie".

But I'm anti-communist to begin with, so I'd take it as an insult, and I'd probably have to retaliate.

Woe be to the man who mistakes being liberal for communist, and calls it to my face. Because he'll be swallowing his teeth when I'm finished with him.

so anyway to the left of Attila the Hun is called a commie. And CNN is not only Clinton News Network but Commie News Network. It doesn't make sense. But there it is. We're all commies if we don't march in lockstep with the Bushies.
