civil service, low pay, the whole smack.

Tell me about it.

Knew a few librarians actually physically attacked by "the public".

One of the many reasons people are not flocking into the caring professions, I guess.

I love social workers, though. They also get a lot of flak over crap they have no control over.

Let's hear it for all the underpaid, overworked!

I have a huge respect for what you people (apologies to Mr Perot) do. I work in a social services environment and hear the crappy stuff every day. Also get it when I get home as my wife is a social worker, too.

That said, you guys are incredible. I hear far more stories about what miracles you perform and the lives you transform with minimal resources. I think it has to be one of the toughest and most affected by Bush*economics careers imaginable.
