Anybody else irrationally hate "Bratz?"
Good grief, this is a role modeling toy for little girls? They all look like they just got through turning trix on the street! I understand they might be "ethnic" or "urban" or something (although honestly, if I were latino or African American I think I would still object) but does the skanky ho look have to penetrate the fantasies of little girls of every persuasion? Somebody explain to me why these are acceptable toys.(i especially hate the dark line around the outside of the lips--I know this has become a "normal" look, but I still can't look at it without thinking they did their makeup all wrong, you can see the lines--what is wrong here???!!) Am I just old?

Apologies in advance to any young ladies who prefer the "Bratz" look--I'm sure you are just beautiful all over, and I'm just envious!

erkk! :puke:

2. Yes
My daughter is old enough to have missed them and the rest of my children are boys. I find them disturbing and weird.

3. What is Irrational About The Way I Feel?
Ewwww. They are like plastic polimer alien assimilation dolls. Bad enough all the images on the commercials are now computer enhanced to physically impossible thinness etc, now a new wave of ugly bug eyed dolls to fend off my children's subconcious minds.

Double ewwww.

Pece,
Teresa

7. You beat me
I was just thinking about starting this thread. :D

There are SO MANY things I find absolutely appalling about them...the marketing of vapid clothes/makeup obsessed girls, the over-sexualizing of teens...but the one thing that I actually find amusing is the commercial for the "FM Limo". If you're not paying attn. it sounds exactly like "Effin' Limo", which while not at all appropriate for kids makes me giggle. :7

8. Well, I have a friend that was very naive. When she went to
Montreal for a conference with a group of fellow graduate students (a few years ago), they housed them near the red-light district. She was so naive she did not realize that the garishly dressed women were prostitutes and made the comment to her group that "these women in Montreal have no taste in clothes." She would have to say that about most teenagers now.
So much work to look like cheap trash.

this is what we are talking about:

and these are the Bratz guy-freinds....the "Bratz Boyz". I wouldn't trust any of them with my daughter. (Sorry about the pic size)

I think the negative images our children see these days should be a critical point in someone's presidential campaign.

Hip-hop kulture haz so much to offer, why did us whitiez decide to appropriate the very partz of it that reinforce the stereotypez?

And be sure to katcht Honey, with Jessica Alba (korrekted az by anudda posta) az the white chick who iz lusted after by all the home slicez (or "homeboyz") and hated by all the g-girlz.

Maybe, in a few yearz, there will be a line of dollz that are modeled after Gwynneth Paltrow, and be kalled "Yupz".

And what'z wit dat thing ending all the pluralz in "z"? It bearz a wack resemblance to Basque verbz and pronounz.

(Edited bekauz I mest up wit Jessica'z name.)

18. My bad!
I corrected my error -- thanks for the info.

I also never knew that Jessica Alba was Hispanic, although having seen the trailer, I can't imagine that the movie will be anything other than a modern Blaxploitation film.

Imagine: being forced to conform to standards and pluralize with an S instead of a Z. The horror!

20. Oh, I don't know
My great-grandfather said the same things about Elvis Presley
My grandfather said the same thing about the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin
My grandmother said the same thing about Vogue magazine and 2-piece swimsuits
My mother said the same thing about Dungeons and Dragons and Ozzy Osbourne

The downward spiral of American culture, or same-shit-different-generation.

24. The only difference is that they were wrong back then.
I'm only half kidding. I mean, what's the bullshit gonna be like in forty years? I'm guessing the English language is going to be reduced to a bucnch of mumbles interspersed with pops and glottal stops, spelling will not be required in school, and we'll all be requied by law to get plastic surgery and have one of those double-turnatble decks installed in every home. Hip Hop will be the official music, and all other musics will be outlawed, jazz and rock musicians will be hunted down and killed like dodos were.

She's 8 and absolutely adores me "Aunt Emi" :D

I think they're pretty cool, better then my stuff.. I only had My little pony, she-ra (He-mans sister!!), and Barbie. (dark dark times).

And the best part is that her dad (my uncles son) who is an uber freeper HATES them

I just hope I'll find some asian looking ones.. I remember it sucked when there were no asian Barbies.

I think I'll get her some makeup aswell :D

26. I only hate them because they're hideous
The only real problem I'd have with them would be if my fictitious 8 year old daughter would want to dress and wear makeup like them. Not many 8 year olds are able to pull off "high school tramp".
