I am familiar from a College Hockey forum I post to. Lots of North Dakotans post there as well.

The number one reason is probably because she is still missing and the news are geared up for a gruesome discover, film at 11 type situation.

14. My Wife And I Had This Discussion Yesterday

About 5 years ago, a guy went crackers and killed his wife, his son, his daughter in law and himself in about 60 minutes. This happened in an unincorporated area about 5 miles from my house.

Not a thing in the national news!

A year and a half ago, some nutjob kid, went to the home of a local businessman in the middle of the night, killed everyone in the house! (5 murders) Nothing in the national news!

Now, mind you we're not a major metropolis, but we're only 50 miles from Chicago. So, we're not in the middle of nowhere.

A revenge crime that is an out and out slaughter is not a national news story, but a missing coed in Dakota is. Major crimes against one's family is a non-starter, but Laci Peterson is major news!

Who makes these stupid editorial decisions? If it's sensationalism, than why weren't these stories i mentioned part of the national cable news cycle?

Apparently, if there's more news, 5 people being slaughtered in their sleep isn't important. But on a slow news day, some coed becomes the raison d'etre of the media. Go figure!
