My Dem Dream Administration for January 2005
Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 08:21 PM by WannaJumpMyScooter
President: Kucinich
I think he would be a radical ddparture from the dreck we have had.
Vice President: Gephardt
Good solid legislative guy, someone to ramrod people on the Hill.
Sec of Defense: Clark
Duh.
National Security: Rudloph Guliani
That should keep him busy, he is good when he is busy.
Sec of State: Jimmy Carter
Let's get shit straightened out for good.
Sec of Tres: Robert Rubin
Pay down the defecit, pump up economy. He did it before.
Sec of Homeland Security: Unfilled
Moving toward getting rid of the Department ASAP.
Sec of VA: Ron Kovic
That should shake up some shit there.
Attny Gen: Eliott Spitzer
Seems like the only one who can do anything with white collar crime. Plus, he hates the FBI.
Sec of HHC: Hilary Clinton
I think she could get into this one.
Sec of Interior: A ramdomly-picked US Forrest/US Park Ranger
Let's let the people who work decide how to do things.
Surgeon General: Howard Dean
Working with Hilary to get National Health Care up and running
EPA: Ralph Nader
FBI: A randomly-selected field agent.
Navy, Air Force and Army Departments... unfilled. don't need this second level of administration working towards de-departmentalizing
SEC: whomever Elliot Spitzer wants
Press Secretary: Helen Thomas
CIA: Carol Mosley-Braun
Ambassador to the UN: Al Sharpton.
I figure he would want to stay in NYC.
Shit... Forgot Labor...and DOT
Sec of Labor: Michael Moore
Sec of Trans: Click and Clack

Of course, this is my dream. The reality? We will probably get the same old rubber-stamp status quo asswipes we always seem to get. But you have to admit, this would be fun.

1. You've made some good picks
I especially like Jimmy Carter as Secretary of State. Too many people, especially in this mal-administration, put him down, when, imho, he has been one of the best ambassadors of true American ideals.

7. After Giuliani got out of office...
He and his girlfriend took over the NYC fund. Before them, there was no over head. After they took over there was suddenly a bunch of overhead because his Gf had to be be paid like 150,000 bucks. I'm not sure of the exact figures, but it was ridiculous.

10. Interesting selections, except Nader--he is not at all Green
He basically hijacked the party just so he could run. Even the founder of the Green Party doesn't want him.

He really need a true environmentalist there.

13. Maggie pardon my ignorance
but tell me about Spitzer, I hear the name often, whos this guy, I know hes your state's AG but nothing more. Anyhow if hes AG, I hope hes like how RFK was, RFK though he was only 36 and inexperienced when he got the job from his brother was one of the best AG's ever. Anywhom why not replace our worst AG in history with the best, I hope hes good, Sorry for my ignorance.

18. Eliott Spitzer is a firebrand blasting out of Albany... the first
NY AG to take on wall street in, well, forever. He tried to get the Feds in on the act, but they were too busy chasing their asses, so he went off on his own.
This is the guy who blew open the current festering pushole of corrpution that is the fund management scandal.
He is da man.

15. These are some inspired choices, WJMS
In a similar thread on DU 1.0, I too picked Carter for State. The choice is so obvious and it's just what we'll need to overcome the bad international rep we've got now. I don't care what order Kucinich and Gephardt are in at the top cuz I know that together they will fight the regressive globalization that has ravaged the planet. My wild-ass choice for Treasury, though, is George Soros. I think he's got the savviest economics mind in the world today.

17. George Soros I had already typed, but I thought that Rubin
might want to try it again. I noticed today on Fresh Air he danced around Terri's attempts to pin him on one candidate. He may be shopping them all.
I see Soros more as head of IMF or at the Fed maybe. Or Commerce, which I just noticed I also missed.

20. Here's a more realistic set...
1st choices are listed 1st, and obviously candidates who are on the ticket don't end up in the cabinet.

State: Richard Holbrooke or Wes Clark. Carter would best be used to trouble-shoot a single problem.
Defense: Max Cleland. History is somewhat leary of general officers returning as War or Defense secretaries, and we haven't done it since Truman.
Treasury: If Rubin passes, Laura Tyson.
Justice: Spitzer

A few selected lower cabinet positions...

Homeland Security: Bob Graham. My first choice (John Kerry) would result in a GOP pickup in the Senate. Giuliani's a great guy to have in a crisis, but when there aren't burning skyscrapers, the guy's got a pretty scary view of the Bill of Rights.

Interior: Wilma Mankiller, fmr chief of the Cherokee tribe. It's about time to put an Indian in charge of Interior. I think she's got pretty good green credentials (lower-case g).

Labor: Richard Gephardt. This would be an ideal capstone position for his career. He deserves it, he'd take it, and he'd excell at it.

HUD: Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

Commerce: Fmr. Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk

Education: Fmr. WV Governor Gaston Caperton

HHS: Howard Dean. Clinton would cost us a Senate seat, and I'm not sure her greatest strengths (which include fundraising and national organization) would be utilized here. While Dean and Clinton would both be lightning rods, Dean's got the M.D.

Agriculture: I can't help thinking about some out-there choices. These include John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, and (more rationally) Jim Hightower.

Energy: I think Gore or Clark might take this job if given a mission and the ability to do something with it.

The rest of the cabinet could then be filled with paybacks, balancers, and politicians who either lost tough elections or who could use exeutive branch grooming.

Nader gets nothing. If he can't tell the difference between Gore and Bush, you don't want him in charge of anything except his own mouth. No need to give him a pulpit from which to run in 2008.

21. Just about spit out my martini with your dept. of trans. pick!
Excellent idea!

Overall, I love your list. I might make a few adjustments, if it were me, but your list is topnotch.

I especially love Carter as Sec. of State.

One of my changes would be Bill Clinton as Homeland Security or Attorney General; or maybe Gore as Homeland Security (though I also actually like the idea of Giuliani). But on the other hand, Giuliani really kicked ass when he was lawyering here in the city and state, so maybe he could be attorney general. He wouldn't be able to go out of control republican, but we'd have someone with some real drive and courage in that role, and I bet once he realizes that he has to pay attention, he'd be an ass-kicking team-playing AG for an otherwise solid democrat administration. Appointing him would also quiet up a lot of the idiot fuckfreeps.

23. Well, I had to have a little fun!
I anguished over BigDog for the cabinet. I do not think he would take a position yet... too soon out of office.

As for Homeland Security, I would work immediately to rid the country of that ridiculous waste of money and time.

Andrew Cuomo is another one I thought about... Ambassador Material maybe.
