Personally, I like the younger houses more, unless I've been in the house for a while. I always worry about ghosts in old houses. Never have seen one, even in the old houses I've been in. But when my aunt and uncle moved out of theirs (after living in it a number of years and experiencing nothing,) the new occupants reported to them that they experienced hauntings. They might have brought their ghosts from their previous residence, or somehow they brought out the house's ghosts. And there's the other option: imagination. :hi:

14. This actually seems like a pretty happy place.

I honestly don't know who lived here, at least back farther than the last three owners. But I know what you mean - I've walked into houses that just have that weird creepy vibe to them. When I was house hunting I was in one place that I couldn't wait to leave. Even in the hot housing market here, I saw it took over 18 months to sell. :scared:

Yep. Old stone village building in an ancient village in the south of france.



I WIN! DING DING DING DING DING!

The other side of the 3 story building faces onto the main street which is known as the Route de Napoleon, it's the route by which he left Cannes and traveled with thousands of troops to Lyon for some reason or other.

This side of the building it at grade because the building faces onto 2 streets, front and back. My side is much further up a hill. With the exception of this stucco'd face of the building, the rest is the original, untouched stone. My exterior walls are about 2 feet thick. It's undergone extensive renovation over the centuries and is as fully habitable as any modern building.

While our building isn't quite as quaint, this is representative of what it looks like

But all in all, it's a well-built little place. :-)

the front part was originally a log cabin. There isn't a level spot in this place. If we set an egg on the kitchen counter, we have to prop it against something or it will roll off.

We moved here from a house built in 1904, and it was even worse than this one.

We love old homes, though. They have so much character.

So more than 100 years but less than 200. No idea what the exact age is. Can tell it's Victorian by the high ceilings - that was fashionable during those times.

32. My trailer is about 17 years old, my parents' house was built circa

1890's I think, and my grandparents house was built by my ancestors during the Revolutionary war. The attic is the coolest. There's old cradles, spinning wheels, and wedding dresses, and on the wall there are still two calendars tacked up from 1898 and 1899.

34. Most of it is minimum 118 yrs old..the rest

(kitchen/2 bedrooms/bathroom)was added on in the 20's. I found it on an old map dated 1888. Our house was an original farmhouse in the area and the land was sold off. The house was picked up and moved forward in the 20's, the barn torn down in the 40's..learned all that from an elderly gentleman who stopped by one day to see the house where he was raised. It raised my curiosity and I did some searching and found the map..at the library. I still have to get back to the courthouse and do more research to find the original year it was built. If you've never had the chance to research old homes..it's really quite facinating but time consuming.

45. My mom found the house her great grandfather built in Sweden...

The owner was kind enough to let her and my aunt come inside. She was excited to have some info on the original builder. In return for her hospitality, my mom sent a copy of a photo that had been taken right after the house was built, with the whole family standing in front of it.

Some of my neighbors thought it was strange that the man stopped by here and that *shriek* *gasp* we let him in. I found his visit very pleasant and informing. Not too long after that, his neice came by as well. The stories she told of being a little girl and running through her grandma's home were vivid..you could see in her eyes she'd gone back to that time. I read that she passed away a few years later..made me feel good to have given her a chance to remember and enjoy some happy childhood memories.

I'm like the owner of your Mom's great grandfather's home..I love hearing the history. That was so thoughful of your Mom to send her a picture, I'm willing to bet that is one cherished photograph.
