Mind of Mencia? Who is this racist ignorant fuck?
Son of a bitch, this guy's fucking offensive. Mostly it's his racist bullshit, but partly, I also hate stand up comedians who constantly laugh at their own material.

1. he's one of those "comedians" who equate being offensive with being funny
...and he is certainly NOT the latter.

You're right Rabrrrrr--he sucks x(

4. And he's not even offensive in a good way
He's just crude.

Bill Hicks was offensive, but he was offensive because he spoke the truth and uncovered the lies nad obfuscations.

This asshole, like Pryor and Andrew Dice Clay and so many others, is just crude and not anywhere close to artistic, interesting, or compelling.

He was the funniest man on the planet.

32. Pryor??!!!??
How you could even mention Richard Pryor in the same sentence as Andrew Dice Clay?

At his best, in his concert films and albums, Pryor was poetry and damn near high art. There may never again be anyone as good as he was at what he did.

There is every bit as much truth in the works of Richard Pryor as Bill Hicks.

38. Alright, everyone's making me think I need to rethink my Pryor position.
I shall try to get one of his albums, and give it a full listen to.

What I've heard of him, in small snippets over the years, has never enamored me to him - streams of profanity that never seemed to have a point or a necessity in being there, and rarely anything funny.

But, I've never listened to an entire routine, either.

So, I'll check him out.

7. I think it was Comedy Central's attempt to duplicate Chappelle's show
Remember when David Chappelle just up and left without warning? The timing of the release of Mind of Mencia strikes me as something they desperately threw together when they weren't sure whether or not Chappelle would be back.

It's a poor imitation if you ask me.

14. Yep, occasionally brilliant...
...though not as consistently inventive as Chappelle's Show. It often misfires, IMO, and is merely offensive.

He's straight up just offensive. And I'm a guy that loves politicalls incorrect humor. Chappelle REALLY rides the fine line. Mencia goes way over it.

http://www.joerogan.net/main.php?archives=1&article=44170
Odd source, perhaps, but a good rant.

They (Comedy Central) put him in to fill the void left by Chappelle's show. He even ripped off Chappelle jokes--not even in a clever way--last season. He's a hack.

13. my husband is Mexican,
and he thinks he's funny- along the lines of Pryor and Chappelle- but has much less finesse than those two do/did. Part of the problem is his delivery- he yells everything. But he does straddle the line of offensive and funny quite a bit.

I find some of his stuff biting, and some of it blatantly offensive. I like his laugh, so I don't mind hearing him laugh at himself.

it falls along those lines. Right now, he is like the anti- George Lopez, I guess. I just find him not that funny. A little too hyper for me -- sort of a coked out energy. I'd like to see a more stoner Mexican-American comedian -- like a Dave Chappelle George Carlin type.
ON EDIT -- That was some welcome you got on another thread, Fleabert. Nice to be missed huh! Even by cyber friends.

22. He was born in Honduras, raised in L.A.
His mother is Mexican (surname Mencia,) his father Honduran, and he was raised by an aunt and uncle (surnamed Mencia) in L.A. So, does that make him racist?

Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 11:50 AM by Gormy Cuss
If Mencia's mother is Mexican and he grew up in a Latino neighborhood in L.A. with relatives from his mother's family, it's splitting hairs to call him German-Honduran. On that basis the comedian Freddie Prinze had no business telling Puerto Rican jokes because his father wasn't Latino.

30. The Colin Quinn of Latinos.
In other words, I wouldn't care about the content, if he weren't so damned unfunny. Taken on its face, the Colbert Report and Chappelle's Show are truly vile. However, those very different shows have a richness that Colin Quinn and Mencia and other hacks just lack.

And Horatio Sanz has a ocean of self-control compared to Mencia.

Dear Mexican,
Where does a Mexican’s “sense” of color scheme come from? I have seen trucks that are teal, maroon and yellow—all on one truck! Is this something ustedes do on purpose, and do ustedes know it looks like crap?

Blinded by the Blight

Dear Gabacho,
Alan Burner doesn’t think that the Mexican love of vibrant colors is crap. Burner is a professor at the Art Institute of California—Orange County and one of the country’s premier color theorists; his textbook, The Dynasty of Light, is required reading in art schools nationwide. “Color is very spiritual and symbolic of one’s inner nature,” the bueno professor told the Mexican. “Worldwide, if you view ethnic people with a rich heritage, you’ll find vibrant colors, because they’re energized. You look at Mexicans, they’re passionate at what they do. When they work, they work hard. When they play, they play hard.” That translates into the retina-searing trucks, houses and hair that offend you so, Blinded. Burner adds that gabacho criticism of bright colors is “just singing sour grapes because we don’t have the guts to do what Mexicans do. are a very brave approach to life—it shows you’re not afraid of emotions. Americans, we’re lazy and lethargic. We’re stuffy. We’re colorless. We’re too busy building façades and not being genuine. We’ll say, ‘Bright pink is not a sophisticated way to paint your house,’ but that’s only because we want everyone to be as phony and plastic as we are.” Translation, Blinded: you’re as cowardly as a Guatemalan.

The jokes are just too easy and clearly not original. The same goes for hearing a comedian talk about masturbation or start into the relationship thing. I know it is standard fare but I find it repititive.
