OK, I'm in love with Norwegian black metal.
It is a twisted, perverted kind of love, and rather resembles my threadjackings with Rev_Acts (:hide:), but love nonetheless.

a. Am I a bad person? (If so, and you are female, please dispense a few :spank:s )
b. Am I going to hell? :P

4. Åååååååh! My eyes!
I like redheads when they're (in ascending order of importance) a) natural b) non-smokers and c) female.

7. It's wacky stuff, isn't it?
At least it beats the snot out of that endless stream of teenybopper crap that spews out of Sweden.

8. Once you've translated the lyrics from Norwegian Death Grunt to
English Death Grunt to English, they can be pretty deep...for example, I'm listening to a great Dimmu Borgir song about the Holocaust right now.

10. Yes, I'm very sure.
If there's the slightest hint that I might not like a band's ideology, I do in depth research before declaring myself a "fan."

They've explicitly stated that they're against all forms of racial superiority movements.

A look at the lyrics will show that it's definitely not a pro-Nazi song.

I do my homework...don't want to get mixed up with WP types...:scared:

27. I usually don't look too deeply at personalities or politics.
The two frontwomen for Veruca Salt are annoying as hell ("Daddy! I'm bored! Buy me a rock band!"), but I like the oxymoronic combination of perky female vocals over crunchy guitars à la Shonen Knife.

29. There's nothin' wrong with that.
Very early on I read a lot of pop lyrics and decided that the less I knew, the better, and from then on just concentrated on finding sounds that I liked (which probably explains my eventual migration to industrial).

30. The vocalists ideology counts for more with me.
Which is why I don't feel guilty listening to the Ramones, since Johnny Ramone's guitar wasn't the conservative one.

For some reason, I see the voice as a tool for spreading ideology, and when hate speech (or shit I just plain don't like) would come out of that same mouth, I couldn't listen to that.

Just my weird psychosis, I guess.

31. It's not psychosis
There's nothing wrong with wanting to know and refusing to give your money to assholes. It's just that long before I started to care about politics, I found out that many of the bands I liked were idiots as evidenced by the preponderance of 4th grade-quality lyrics in rock music, so like I said, I stopped paying attention.

German fantasy power metal is more my style. Windir's Arntor album is excellent though. Also, where are you finding a translator for Norwegian to English online? Or do you just speak Norwegian?

19. Some of that stuff seriously rocks.
I have no use for the pseudo-Wagnerian stuff, and that Burzum dude's a fucking crackpot, but Dark Funeral, Ulver & Immortal have made some amazing albums.

Cradle of Filth, OTOH, could seriously use to go the hell away...

20. Mostly I like it because of how strange the music sounds.
There are more than a few asylum-worthy folks on the scene and let's face it, no one listens to the stuff for the vocal quality, anyway. :)

21. Ever read "Lords of Chaos?"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0922915946/sr=8-1/qid=1141243909/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-9121889-4162236?%5Fencoding=UTF8

Excellent chronicle of the massively antisocial behavior of the early Norwegian black metal scene - like when they were all murdering each other and burning down churches. The book digresses into some irrelevant (and frankly boring) tangents towards the end, but for the most part, it's an informative, solid, good read. It's just incredible how utterly batshit nuts some of those guys were.

OTOH, I've always wondered what it might be like to sing black metal songs about stupid things like sex and drinking instead of death and Satan. Maybe I'll start a band. :P

23. Ha - yeah, you basically mean Venom!
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 03:25 PM by asthmaticeog
They were an early '80s Satan-metal band that actually just cultivated the "Satanic" image for laughs - a lot of their songs were pretty much just about partying and/or fucking. The Norwegians nicked the name "black metal" from one of Venom's albums.

Fuckin' SILLY.

edit: spelling

33. Apologies.
My only real-life reference for that accent was my friend Joe, originally from Rochester, MN, whose accent you could cut with a knife, and who would invariably say "heckuva ting." I just assumed that his the universal MN pronunciation.

So, Satan, then, huh? Oh yaaaaah! :headbang:
