I have a rant! (kind of long)
As some of you are aware, my son plays basketball for a local city league. At the beginning of the "season" his team had nine members, and they went undefeated in the first nine games they played. After the ninth game, the coach of the team was replaced (due to several issues), and at game #10, 3 of the kids managed to get booted off the team (for swearing and unsportsmanlike conduct.) A fourth member decided not to play anymore because his friends were not allowed to play, so my son's team is down to 5 players.

They lost games 10-12 and now are in the tournament, which is double elimination (lose two games and you are gone). They lost their first game of the tournament to a team that still had nine players (they lost by only 20 points...which is pretty damn good, in my estimation). My son and his best friend are the only two players left that can really play well, so it is like two against five. No big deal, my son is clear on the concept of "you play with what you have".

Well in tonight's game (my son and his friend could easily out play eight of the nine players on that team, talentwise), several of the players were taunting my son (away from the coaches and referees earshots) and basically trying to incite him to fight. Our team only has the five players on the floor, and no subs for when our boys get tired, and these kids are trying to take one of our guys out of the game. I am so pissed about this I can hardly stand it. It is bad enough that the boys on his team that did not misbehave are having to play with really no hope of winning another game, but then you have guys on the other team taunting them.

:grr:

1. Strategy
A damned underhanded one, too. Pretty fucking lame, trying to win that way.

I think your son knows what to do.

7. Kudos to him for waiting to rant in the car
It's hard when kids get an introduction to the "politics" of sports.

10. That sucks.
It's bad enough that Santa isn't real.
But when the politics of sports rears its ugly head...

13. Well, there are other ways
Like the "bad pass" that goes off somebody's face, or diving for a loose ball and taking out half the bench.

17. That sucks
Hopefully your son's team will win the tournament and the other team will have to eat their dust. Then your son can bask in the glory while the taunters are reminded how much they stink. Kudos to him for dealing with them in such an adult manner.

19. That's too bad
It would have been nice for them to have a victory for all of their hard work.

I'm glad you reported those jagoffs though.
