Anyone ever stay in a capsule hotel?
http://www.capsuleinn.com/

How was it? It's the kind of no-frills thing I would have loved when I was still on the road; is it worth the price?

5. About 30 bucks
A little more, I think. For what you get other than the capsule itself, it doesn't seem too bad...

6. Not too shabby
but I find it VERY interesting that this hotel has 140 capsules for men and only 24 for women.

I'm wondering what the cultural reasons for that would be. I personally don't mind sleeping rough outside, but only in the country. In the city I often find a quiet street and sleep in the car.

I'd be ALL OVER a capsule! :bounce:

7. I guess
the original target was drunk businessmen too drunk to go home or who missed the last train back home. Then budget travelers discovered it and it's morphed into a kind of hip thing..

8. That would be my guess too
but in America both men and women work in business in roughly proportional numbers. It's interesting that men are expected to behave so differently from women there. Even the facilities are different for men and women.

15. Even in the US, men far outnumber women on the road
It's one of the only thing I like about air travel.

The only downside is twice in one morning two different businessmen ask me if I wouldn't mind refilling something at the Marriott breakfast buffett -- they assumed that as the only woman in the room, I must be the Buffett Hostess, even though I was wearing business attire.

one of the odd rules, the hotel does not allow tattoos.
Apparently tattoos are popular with Japanese criminals.

14. I would definitely consider it
The only thing I don't see is some place to put your luggage while you're sleeping.

17. Considering I have to sleep with someone in bed with me..
I dont think I would be able to do it. When hubby went away for a week I slept horrible, kept tossing and turning, and couldnt sleep. As soon as he came home I had my typical sleep.. no way I can do it.

19. I considered it, in Japan,
but after seeing them up-close, it was far too confining.

I don't have claustrophobia, but I felt as though I did when I saw them.

21. Hey, mang....
If you're flying to Tokyo, you should try to fly courier. We discussed it before I went to Thailand--you said you had friends that flew courier without incident. I tried it out and everything went fine. Flew from New York to Tokyo to Bangkok and back for $400, including tax! PM me if you want the name of the company, etc....
