Poll question: What do you listen to during your morning commute to school/work
Me, I'm always listening to CDs because you can't find anything worth listening to on the radio. I started off with Korn's greatest hits but ultimately went back to listening to Rush's "Moving Pictures" with the volume up as far as it could go.

So what do you listen to on the radio on your commute to school/work

I walk to work, and there's no more pleasant sound than birds twittering to each other as I wander along.

52. No I don't bird watch.
I can barely tell a sparrow from an eagle.

I do know that we have some quasi-famous red-kites around here. The woods are mainly beech in this part of the world (I don't know whether that's good or bad).

4. If I'm driving, I listen to the classical station on the way to work,
and the jazz station on the way home.

Usually I take the bus, though, so I tend to listen to a lot of cell-phone conversations.

I will be glad when I think it has become warm and dry enough for me to bike to work again.

11. I switch between NPR and 96 Rock (prog rock station)
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 11:00 AM by supernova
The local prog rock station, 96 Rock, is locally owned and is pretty good. The morning crew do play some music and they are not otherwise engaged in stupid publicity stunts designed to degrade or embarass people. Neither are they shock jocks.

edit: A while back this station used to have Johnboy and Billy out of Charlotte, whom I hate with a passion. I never listed in the mornings for that reason. Then they got rid of Johnboy and Billy and made this announcement:

"We realize that most of our listeners are going to NPR in the mornings, so we ditched those other guys.."

14. Silence because I hate screaming morning jocks
How anyone listens to them screaming, their forced laughter, and their unfunny jokes is beyond me.

One radio program has this terrible "prank call" segment where they help one party terrorize someone else as a "joke". Yeah, real funny.

I have a CD player but all my discs get scratched up so I don't bother anymore.

I actually got an XM radio car thing, but it doesn't work with my lighter because apparently they used the lighter "circuts" to run my remote start.

oh, the horror!

21. Prattling jackanapes sitting behind me on the train
  • bragging young yuppie white boys with that stupid f#*cking 90's style wax in their hair (that was today)
  • black teenaged girls shrieking at the highest decibels known to humans (that was yesterday)
  • shreiking white girls right-out-of-college, recapping their ill-spent weekends (all summer)
  • the big fat white asbergers know-it-all who lectures his seatmate on American History and aeronautics without stopping to take a breath the ENTIRE trip
  • the middle-aged Chinese woman yelling into her cellphone the whole ride
  • the 30-something Indian women who babble the whole ride in

(at least I can tune out the latter two categories pretty easily because I don't speak Mandarin or Hindi)

Oh yes, I am indeed an equal-opportunity hater

And my radio doesn't play NPR loud enough to drown them all out.

40. It's never too early to teach your children the joys of great music
My best friend has a daughter who started listening to the Doors and other classic rock music back when she was 4-5 years old. They've even taken her to see The Doors in concert (I think the lead singer of the Cult has done vocals with the remaining surviving members) and several Doors tribute shows. She was even with us when we went to see two Led Zeppelin tribute bands in NYC back in August (it was a tribute to Robert Plant's birthday. The one band sucked but the all-girl LZ tribute band was actually surprisingly good!).

As CSN&Y have so eloquently sung many times: Teach, your children well.
