HELP - Any DU lawyers out there? Advice for a friend needed.
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 03:54 PM by helderheid
Hello! My friend in Austin TX, at the request of his wife, has left the home and is staying with his mother while his wife remains in their home with their two children. When he asked to come back home, she asked that he stay out for an additional 7 months. That time request struck him as a little odd and is wondering if there is some law in Texas that if he's out of the house for 8 months, he loses rights to possesions or the children - anyone know?

Thanks!

5. Sometimes this represents a legal separation that allows for divorce filing

The time period in places I've been has been one year legally separated before a couple can file.

I think he better start doing his research on Texas divorce law.

lawyers.

They also have state-specific books related to all things legal. Your local library should have most; especially related to marital and divorce law. Any large (read chain) bookstore that doesn't stock their marital/divorce law books isn't worth your money.

Very thorough and easily understood.

Edit: URL would be helpful, right? D'oh!
