Newspaper Editor Misses X-Rated Sports Photo (Photo At Link)

If you’re one of the lucky ones who opened your morning Bryan-College Station Eagle on Thursday and found a large penis staring back at you, well, congratulations. No, it wasn’t one of the paper’s newer promotions (find the wiener, win a Mexican cruise!), just a goof by an editor who didn’t scrutinize the photo quite closely enough.

That’s Texas guard Daniel Gibson trying to guard Texas A&M’s Acie Law during their game on Wednesday — and either it was a very good fake by Law, or Gibson just doesn’t believe in the tyranny of underwear. Or both.

You can’t quite see the whole picture in that tiny photo … but never fear! The full-sized photo is after the jump. Oops.

9. LOL. Here's the paper's explanation. It was NOT a pee pee!

Dave McDermand, our photo director, was emphatic: The picture does not show anything improper. He proved my point. I had him enlarge the photo to the size of a regular Eagle news page. The specific section of the picture in question showed nothing more than the white inside liner of the player's uniform. The color was distorted for a variety of reasons, primarily because of the angle at which the picture was taken, the lighting, orange color of the uniform on the left pant leg reflecting up into the groin area, and the specific moment that was captured.

I just looked at the photo again. If it WAS a penis, not only is the guy crazy for going commando while playing basketball, but he's, erm, VERY well-endowed.

If it's his uniform folded back, then this guy has been terrifically embarrassed for something that actually didn't happen.

It's the white underside of his shorts. Look at the color of the "Texas" logo on his jersey. It is a bit distorted orange, as well.

I know the photog, too...Butch Ireland. I'm not sure that's a bona fide penis, but the illusion is interesting either way. And very, very funny.
