Watching "The Devil's Rejects". Total yawn-fest.

Will Tarantino surprise me with Hostel? I doubt it.

What they're missing so far is realism. When a hostage who's been brutalized gets a gun they won't hesitate to shoot their captors while their captors try to talk them out of shooting them.

Blam blam fuckers, you're dead, continue story about former hostages making it out of labyrinth of other people in various stages of hell that the sicko who locked them up in the first place built.

:boring:

5. Well, enjoy it
perhaps I'm in a particularly cynical mood where everything sucks

or maybe I'm in an over analytical mood where everything not done by me sucks

dunno. :hi:

2. I think perhaps audiences have become too sophisticated.
There isn't a great deal of shock value left unexplored in the genre. They're reduced to variations of the same or just vast quantities of the same scenarios.

13. A word of warning about the cinema release of 'The Hills Have Eyes'
Because of reasons I'll never properly understand, to avoid an NC-17 rating around 2 minutes of MPAA suggested cuts have been made to Aja's final cut. There will be botn an R and an unrated DVD release. (What really pisses me off is that the studio are using the R-rated version for the international release :( )

14. beats me sometimes too, last one we kinda enjoyed was...
'skeleton key', of all premise'...good stuff after all. DS1 still has a point, 'devils rejects' was too stupid to even finish, we shut it off bout 15-20min into it = real dumb-ass shit

7. Have you by any chance seen the "Masters of Horror" on Showtime?
Yeah, I would say overall the individual episodes were lame but, I did like the one called "Homecoming." It wasn't horror per se but, it was a satire about the current political situation.

Info on "Homecoming" episode can be found here: http://www.villagevoice.com/film/0548,lim,70455,20.html

8. You didn't like "Devils Rejects"?
I thought it was a great, gritty, bloody action-horror-exploitation flick!

Hostel does suck, however.

9. I dunno
It's just not doing anything for me. Rob Zombie's clip in Beavis and Butthead Do America was far more creative than this.

17. The Devil's Rejects was wretched
and yes, Hostel sucked, but the scene with the "kid posse" blocking the road was so Tarantino, I laughed.

I just watched Saw 2, the other night. That was better than the former two titles.

10. Try & find "Wolf Creek" - fucking awesome flick from Oz
which was everything that The Devils Rejects should have been.

16. I actually liked The Devil's Rejects.
And Tarantino actually has very little to do with Hostel aside from tacking on his name for publicity purposes. (I think he's executive producer or some crap. It's written and directed by Eli Roth.)

But I'll agree for the most part, most modern horror (though I'm not a huge fan of the slasher/violence/gore type of horror anyway) sucks tremendously.

18. That slasher stuff is so tired
Hasn't given me (or anyone I know) a jolt in years. I think the best horror is currently coming out of Japan. It's not necessarily as gory, but it's far more creative and intelligent. I rented Kairo (aka Pulse) last night, it was everything US horror isn't; moody, original, disturbing and discussion provoking. Definitely a thinking woman (or man's) horror film.

Here's a review from The Horror Channel, check it out: http://www.horrorchannel.com/index.php?name=Reviews&req=showcontent&id=804

I also recommend:

Hausu
The Eye & The Eye 2
A Tale of Two Sisters
The Suicide Club
Kwaida
Uzumaki
Saimin
Kyua
