Poll question: Most worthless member of a pop music group
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 10:58 PM by swag
Joel Gion, Brian Jonestown Massacre

Bez, from Happy Mondays (a pretty worthless band, though they did have four songs, by my count, that vindicated their existence)

Jerry Garcia (the basis for the character "Ralph Garcy" in the movie Fame)

2. Burton Cummings?? Explain, please...
In my opinion, Burton Cummings has one of the best voices in rock.

He DID, after all, show up drunk at a Salsbury House ( http://www.salisburyhouse.ca/ ) and fall over on the grill.

and we shall never speak of it again.

Now what was the greatest BC accomplishment that you matched?

28. Getting pissedtanked
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 11:32 PM by GirlinContempt
Thats the #1.

#2 would be crashing an event at the local Burton Cummings Theater ( http://www.ticketmaster.com/venue/139404? ) and 'performing' the bathroom.

How have YOU matched or exceeded Mr Cummings?!

Oh, we also impersonated Burton on Livejournal, got banned, and started a live journal community to commemorate our efforts: http://community.livejournal.com/burton_cummings/

But, seriously, I'm pretty pisstanked. And getting ready to go out. This can only lead to disaster.

7. I'd say Joel Gion...
But seeing as I consider the Brian Jonestown Massacre as worthless in general, I have to go with Bez. Although Bez did have a lot of drugs, which is always a plus. Without Bez, the Happy Mondays story wouldn't be quite as funny.

9. I will say this about Jerry Garcia...
In the film "Festival Express" there's great footage of him playing lead with Janis Joplin and one of the guys from the Band on rythym. Everyone in the scene looks completely fucked up on drugs and booze, and Joplin is warbling with a voice that sounds like she swallowed shards of glass. The whole thing is fucking chaotic.

Garcia never missed a note.

I hate the Grateful Dead, but that impressed me.

Fuck, even if you don't like the Grateful Dead (and they certainly were not a pop band, either, by any account), Jerry was one of the hearts and souls of the band, an essential element.

Certainly not worthless - he was necessary!

99% worthless. About as interesting as a Fred Schneider solo album, yet somehow more annoying.

44. I'm going to get flamed like hell for this one
But Linda McCartney in The Wings, I'm not real familiar with Paul's band the Wings, but I once saw a performance where Linda's just standing there swinging a tambourine around. I say it's safe to say if she wasn't married to Paul she probably wouldn't be in the band or any band for that matter.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH. How did that line go . . . "I've heard cats fuck with more harmony!"

Addendum - Linda was a great humanitarian, environmentalist and wife. But she should have never been anywhere near a mike.
