Why do rich people get all of the free shit??
My daughter's pre-school is having a silent auction this weekend to raise money for the school. I went with the woman organizing the auction to pick up some couches today. It just so happens, the place we got the couches is responsible for putting the gift bags together for The Screen Actors Guild Awards. You should have seen the stuff they had there; it was unbelievable!

As it was said in the movie "Swingers", "You gotta act like you don't need the shit and then they give you the shit for free."

It's what Thurston Moore once called the "free shit program."

His friend shopping with him at the record store needed free shit more than Thurston Moore did, but the record store guy gave Thurston Moore free shit and a discount.

Sweet financial reach-around.

3. I don't know.
I shop at Sephora.com occasionally, so I get their email ads, and the latest ad campaign is centered around those free goodie bags, highlighting the items that are included in them. You too can have the same crap the stars get, only you have to pay for it! It really didn't make me feel like rushing online to buy any of those things.

4. They feel they are entitled.
You know, money for nothing and the chick's for free...

Just like how there's "somebody for everyone" too.

5. For the advertising.
I know it's not fair (it's sick, in a way) that the wealthiest people receive gift bags worth thousands of dollars, etc. But the object is to get product placement, to create attraction to a name, company, or item.

6. The whole economy runs on bribes and quid pro quo tricks
with working stiffs and the poor holding it all up on their bent backs.

"Listen all you boards, governments, syndicates, nations of the world,
And you, powers behind what filth deals consummated in what lavatory,
To take what is not yours,

To sell out your sons forever
To sell out the ground from unborn feet forever
And you, powers behind what filth deals consummated in what lavatory"

just a poignant (to me) Burroughs line that sprang to mind when reading your post.

11. Anyway, I talked to my dad in your state the other night
and even he is now rabid to get rid of Conrad Burns.

Stunning. And even my father confesses, without prompting, that Bush is an embarrassment and a disaster.

Trivial asides.

12. Lots of reports of that around here too.
People just walkin up and saying all sorts of unflattering things about Burns, bushco AND the GOP in general!

I don't think bush would get more than 10 votes in the whole county now and Cheney just better never show up. ;) Folks are good 'n mad and they are really pissed that Conrad is tryin to blame the DEMS for his own behavior. Good 'n mad!
