IF YOU CLICK HERE YOU WILL DIE!!!!
there are references to 1984 and "the hollow men", and "you" referrs to an audience of my fellow students.

Come again, what's that you say?
I said Nick and Jessica broke up yesterday.
Is that bite-sized enough for your little mind?
The world's moving forward, you're falling behind
I mention the melting ice caps, the rising tidal
patters, you spew some sh.it about American Idol.

And you over there, think you're so different?
Think there's rebellion in the way that you're livn'?
I won't even ask, how much did you pay
for the sneakers with the red circled 'A'?
The anarchy sign to get the government overthrown
Well, where do you think that the money in goin'?
Corperations taxed to finance war
To protest you'll just buy some more
And keep on playing right into their hands
With the pseudo-rebellion of underground bands

Do you ever think- tell the truth, please,
About the rising temperatures, or the poisoned seas?
Do you even know what's happening in Sudan?
Do you notice the White House going Orwellian?
And if ending terror is the war,
then WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 24?
You grow up with 'war on terror' as the truth you accept,
But then why the support for Uzbekistan's dictatorship?

Secret trials, no trials, with tyrants we are allied
Plus abandoned human rights gives you Freedom Fried.
And you tell me I should move to France
Well, maybe you should move to Uzbekistan
Or just go back to eating your Freedom Fries
and your prolefeed from INGSOC laced with lies.
For instance, did you hear, by the way,
that the chocolate ration went up today?

In response there is no shout, only a whimper, so dare I say,
that for you, your headpieces stuffed with straw, the world ends in this way?
Hollow and lifeless, heading to hell, for you have ignored my warning
Here we go round the prickly pear at five o'clock in the morning.

2. I was already dead
But I appreciate the sentiment.

Do you have to read that aloud to your fellow students? You might want a hard hat if that's the case. Not saying it's bad, just that you might have a few critics in the audience. It's very difficult to make political poetry work without insulting someone. Langston Hughes was a great political poet but I think he insulted more people than he made think.

If you go up there in front of the class and read that, be prepared. It will likely get a lot of knee jerk reactions. But I'm all about freedom of speech so if you feel strongly about it then cool. We need thinking people right now and if you encourage that I'd give you an A+ automatic.

4. I'm not going to read it to them...
I just wrote it because i got bored. Well, actually, not bored so much as incredibly frustrated...I might submit it to a poetry constest, though....

5. Hughes was a revolutionary poet
Edited on Sat Mar-04-06 02:44 AM by Droopy
I wanted to post an example of his work here, but apparently it's all copyrighted. Check into him if you dig political poetry. His influence continues to this day and he wrote in the early 20th century.
