what do you feed a cat with bad allergies

I have a cat with allergy problems. This has been going on for a couple years now but recently has been getting worse. He sneezes a lot now, his weight is going down, and he vomits more frequently. He's been to the vet three times over the years and they never help him, because he doesn't display symptoms in the clinic. He will never, ever take pills or any kind of meds orally. He sees me with a Benadryl bottle and runs & hides. My only thought is to change his diet. Regularly he got 9-Lives canned and Purina ONE Urinary Tract Health Formula dry, because he had Urinary Tract problems before.

So is there any formula food specific for cats with allergies, or a good bland diet that is easily digestible for cats?

1. Try an organic cat food

I use Paul Newman's brand. I have two white kitties whose allergies can be pretty severe. I switched them from Science diet to organic and they have both had improvement.

3. My cat got sores for years, until we took fish out of her diet

harder than it sounds - even a lot of good organic food using herring or other fish. When I say sores, I mean she had one the size of a dime on her tiny little cheek, and it was open and oozing. Most were on or around her mouth, though.

Finally settled on California Naturals dry and Merrick wet food. No more sores.

Don't know if this has any bearing on any other type of allergy, but it worked for us.

10. I feed mine California Natural too

Winky is allergic to everything under the sun and won't eat the raw diet (she would rather starve, as she has proven twice now). So she eats the CN and we're both happy. :)

4. You might try a venison and green pea formula food.

Our cats love Natural Balance food and they just came out with a venison and green pea formula for cats with allergies.

5. Ours are on Felidae

We've had less vomiting than they had even on Science Diet, Mr. Sneezy is not sneezing as much, and other than it has less fat, so we have to supplement Mr. Sneezy's fat intake (harder than it sounds - he doesn't like human food) to keep his coat and dandruff under control, this is the best food we've ever found for the little beasties.

One of ours has a sensitivity to corn and Felidae has no corn.

7. How about making his food?

Cats are meat eaters, so what about shredding some for him and maybe adding some mushed up rice for bulk...maybe a vitamin supplement every now and then..
Barn cats pretty much survive on what they can catch, so store-bought foods are not truly necessary..

There's bound to be an online site that has recipes for a "natural diet" you could try :)

8. Yes, try to get a food he/she's never eaten before, such as

lamb & rice (most cats have not eaten that).

I had a cat with allergies to milk (likely culprit), she started losing her fur. At one point she was half bald (poor kitty). I switched her food and it all grew back. Your vet could be a leeeetle more helpful, me thinks.

fortunately I found a pet store around the corner that has all this stuff. I think I'll try different brands every week and see how he reacts. This week I picked up Wellness cans and a couple cans of Trader Joe's Tuna for cats. I'm taking out dry entirely as he seems to have digestive trouble with that more. It's been predominately seafood based stuff up to now so I'm mixing different types of meats.
