Does a no pets policy usually mean no dogs and cats?

I've emailed a few property management places here and they said they would accept my bird, if she's quiet. (she is)

But is this what this policy means?

1. It might be about peeing in the corners
which wouldn't be an issue with birds. Their messes are vacuum-able

2. besides my bird just poops on me, not so much the rug...
heh heh. But you are right, those little droppings don't stain anything.

3. usually means no pets
no non-human residents. it's easier to issue a blanket ban and negotiate exemptions than deal with annoying pets once you let them in.

4. probably also means
no ferrets, no iguanas, no ocelots, no crocodiles, no snakes, no hamsters, etc.
Things in aquariums - like fish, or ants might be okay, but isn't it better to ask?

6. The policy could mean just about anything, depending on the manager
Some places will take birds, even with a no-pets policy; other places say NO PETS and mean it, period.

HOWEVER: If you bring Murphee into a building with a no-pets policy without telling anyone, and the landlords find out, they'd be within their right to evict you. Since you're asking, you'll be OK.

When I looked for my place, I stayed away from the "no pets" people, because I figured if they didn't consider my birds to be pets, there may be some other problems down the line ("oh, we didn't bother letting anyone know we were spraying the lawn and common areas for bugs").

My next move, though, involves a cat as well as the birds so this is moot.

7. No, I'm pretty upfront about having a pet....
Most places state "no pets" but some places are a little less strict than others. :)

8. Birds are acceptable
My Mother just spent a lot of money on her rental property laying new carpet and sealing the floor because of a dog that peed everywhere.

9. My brother calls it the fishbowl test
If your companion isn't detectable - like a couple of goldfish, you will get away despite the official policy. So as long as your bird is silent, the neighbors won't complain and all should be well.
