Need A Good Anti-Virus Program Other Than Norton and Mcafee

Is testing nicely. It appears just as effective as Norton and way more effective and much less resource draining than MacAFooie.

Hit windows update, click on Windows family and on downloads. It's right up front. There is also on-line disc cleanup and safety checks available now too. Making it easier for the non-geeks among us to do maintainance without fear.

That @$#% thing was constantly downloading at the worst possible time, causing me massive performance problems while gaming.

8. Hey, waitaminnit!

According to this, Windows Defender is for spyware, not viruses. Meh. There are plenty of good, free anti-spyware programs out there, and they won't download updates when I'm in the middle of a gaming session.

av-comparatives.org. Go to the latest test for February 2006. My AV, Kaspersky, did the best (except for F-Secure, which uses the KAV AND BitDefender engines) - but Norton's performance will surprise some people.

9. The Symantec was quite excellent. Not suprised

Been a fan since '99. But One-care will solve a lot of problems for non-gamers and "surfers" who aren't glued to these little boxes.:headbang:

10. I used Symantec before and liked it

It let a couple minor things through, like the ByteVerify exploit. But generally, it was good.

I'll warn the OP that I'm having problems with the beta for KIS 6. I always lose my internet connection. It might be something on my end (not sure what,) but I'd advise sticking to KAV 5 for now.

If I can't get KIS 6 working, I'll likely change to NOD32 because of its heuristics.

Both free.

I am currently using avast and have found it to be an excellent antivirus program. I have also used AVG Free and found it to be a good AV program, as well.

15. FREE seems to me to be a great program

No wallet drain, no passbook exploit, no pocket cruncher, no checkbook reducer.

I love free. Other than advice, so few things really free any more.:silly:
