Poll question: Do you shop at Abercrombie and Fitch?
Got to thinking about this because of the uproar over their next sexy "magalog." Any time I pass a store I am always reminded of the time Ethel said to Lucy, when they're planning on crashing Fred and Ricky's camping/fishing/hunting trip--"We better get down to Abercrombie and Fitch" to pick up some gear! Times have changed indeed-y.

1. No because I don't find
their stuff all that spectacular. They're filching kids out of money that would be better spent at the thrift store. And they'd get more authentic clothing in the process.

2. I like their catalogs
Or at least, the women in them.

As for their stores. I've never shopped there. I'm more of an Eddie Bauer or LL Bean type of dresser.

3. HELL NO!!!
I don't support no sweatshop pushing, white oriented ONLY company!!! The store reminds me of the show "Orange County", which I don't like either. I could buy stuff at a cheaper price somewhere else.

I would never shop there, even though I'm 16. The clothes are too preppy and just blah, for the price you're paying. Never even tried anything on there.

Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 11:56 AM by absyntheNsugar
for his fishing gear - back when they were an outdoor clothier (they used to be more L.L. Bean than they are today.)

Just a note of irony. They used to give out free fishing hooks with every purchase. Then marketing got a hold of them.

16. No relation, other than the name.
the modern A&F is a low-rent (but high-priced) Gap clone that sells wrinkled cargo pants to the frat-boy set. Eddie Bower, too, was once a reputable outfitter that has now succumbed to corporate homoginization. Hell, I remember when Banana Republic was a catalogue-driven retail company run by Mel and Patricia Ziegler.

13. Not if someone paid me a million dollars.
I think that place is horrible. The music is always BLAIRING, there are kids that look anorexic shopping there. Even when I was in my teens, I thought that place sucked. The sales people looked you up and down when you walked in, was like "Can I help you?" And I don't mean like when you walk into the Disney store. I mean, like when Julia Roberts walked into that store on Rodeo Drive pre Pretty Woman clothes trying on montage. It's not pleasant. I shop at Lane Bryant and Old Navy. Why waste your money on bad service and high prices? Go for quality and kindness.

15. You know what really sucks
is that you have to "know" someone working there to work there. It's part of the structure - they don't want the 'lower rung' kids of the high school ladder working there, basically only the popular kids, so they hire on referral only.

Also, they pay minimum wage and make their employees wear A&F clothes only, and they give barely a discount to their employees. Basically violating the law stating that if a company requires a uniform, they have to provide it.

17. NO!
Their hiring practices stink (racist, elitist), and the music is so loud and obnoxious it made me want to curl up in a fetal position within seconds of walking in the door. No wonder the kids who work there have that glazed look. Plus, the clothes are overpriced and crappy, made to fall apart or go out of style in the next ten minutes.

19. The only thing going for them is the quality
I did get a pair of khakis from my teenage cousin (who worked there - shes the one who told me all about their elitist practices) and I'll be dammned if they weren't a good product. Triple stitching - they hold up.

Although its funny, I press 'em which is not what they were intended for.

31. You're the opposite of me. I'm a t-shirt and jeans kinda guy.
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 04:53 PM by northwest
I like to wear cargo pants as well, and I have equal pairs of cargo pants and jeans. The rest is t-shirts and flannel. I'm still trying to get over the grunge years. When they see me, a lot of my friends tell me that grunge is dead. I chuckle and tell them that I just wear what I like.

BTW, I'm wearing probably the most preppy thing in my wardrobe right now, and it's just a grey, long-sleeved Sonoma shirt.

28. A friend of mine in high school had a shirt:
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 04:48 PM by northwest
His shirt said "I Hate Abercrombie and Fitch Since 1997"

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

It was a parody of all those vintage A&F shirts that state the year of its founding.

And no, I don't shop there. Not only do I feel out of place, but they charge you your left nut for their clothes. I shop at either Kohls, Pac Sun or JCPenney.

I'm also kinda starting to like Aeropostale. They have nice, trendy clothes, but not marketed as upscale bourgeoise. It's more down-to-earth, More of a place for normal middle-class young people to shop. Their clothes are a lot cheaper, too. They generally don't look preppy like A&F's merchandise.
