6. I'll never forget you merh.
I actually made the call a few minutes before I started this thread. I reached his answering machine and said "I know I'm calling a day early but I just called to say Happy Birthday".

I've been talking myself into this since I found him on a computer search last summer.

47. Thank you for being there when I needed a voice of sanity this afternoon.

I'm so glad I called you (((((((((merh))))))))). Your PMs made perfect sense and I needed to read every word. I thought about it and took a nap for a while. I'm saddened by what he's been through and incredibly impressed by the strength of his spirit.

He reminded me of the day I told him I'd made an appointment for him on the following Tuesday to see his grade adviser. Then I told him it was up to him how he handled the rest of his life.

I was surprised when he told me that he has been sharing parts of our life story with the people he councils on a daily basis.

Today has been filled with an incredible array of emotions for me. Calling him was the right thing to do.

7. Ditto -- but I would probably do a background check if they wanted to
meet up to catch up on old times--just to be safe. A lot can change in that much time.

He was such a sweet man, he could have only gotten better. :)

Thanks for the thought. I think I would feel the same way if the call origin had been reversed.

His birthday is tomorrow. I thought I might miss him if I called on Monday. I've chickened out on just saying hello so many times over the last 10 months. So he wasn't home today and I simply left a message.

Off subject, I have to say that every time I see the picture of you on your deck I get so homesick. I miss those mountains. It is such a beautiful picture. Say hello to Saugerties for me & my boys, and give a little wave towards Woodstock.

20. I did something like
I called one of my dearest childhood friends to wish her a happy 30th birthday (we all turned 30 a couple years ago). I hadn't seen or spoken to her in about 8 years. She was tickled to hear from me and appreciated the camaraderie over turning 30.

Do it, people love to hear from dear friends from the past.

27. it depends on who they are
there are people in my past, and even former dating partners that I really would not want to hear from again. Although, ironically enough, I keep thinking about calling an old HS classmate who lives quasi-locally, and that has been about 26 years, and we never were close friends, although on the same intramural B ball team. I have done that throughout my life - contacted old classmates and distant relatives and close relatives who are far away.

I admire people who decide to act on their thoughts, impulses, wishes, or whatever. Too many people live lives of regret, wondering what might have been. You never know, unless you try.
