Poll question: Who was a worse president: Reagan or Shrub?
I never thought I would prefer Ronnie and Nancy to anyone, but I do now. Of course, Bill and Hillary are my first preference.

1. I'm with you
I never, ever, ever thought I'd despise a president more than Raygun, but Bush* has managed.

2. You mean Nancy or Shrub ??
Ronnie was already getting senile by 1980. You could see the difference in him between the 80 campaign and 76.

3. I'd give my eye-teetth to only have to deal with Reagan again
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 12:01 PM by Rabrrrrrr
(obviously, not the Alzheimer's ronnie, but the original one, circa 1980).

Hell, I'd give my eye-teeth to have to deal with only a small time criminal like Nixon again. he was corrupt, but shit, at least he cared about the country and did some good things.

There's a way to be selfishly evil and paranoid, but still do good things for the country.

Shrub don't have that.

5. Raygun started the polarization process
that we have now. And he had two terms to work his evil deeds. Shit-for-brains is giving it his best shot though. When I start seeing roads, schools, and aircraft carriers named after Lil' Dickhead then I'll really freak out.

6. lets see
Regan spent heavier than any president before him, sold weapons to terrorists, used a stupid idea from one of his movies (the lazer thing)and used a hostage situation to get into power, but most of what he has done was undone by clinton, Shrub spent more in 3 years than regan did in 8, eroded most of the constitution, destroyed our international reputation, has us in 2 wars at once and plans us to be in 8 wars at once, backed the U.S. out of the U.N. and just about every defense treaty, was not an elected official, profited from war HEAVILY, is bringing the U.S. to the brink of civil war, and has a felony record (there is more) you decide

7. Trick question
We shouldn't forget that after the definitive recount it was found that Gore won FL, and that the story was delayed and sparsely reported because of "sensitivity to the tragedy of S-11"

(but my answer is bush :) )

8. Um...
that's like asking "would you rather be shot with a .45 or a 12-gauge shotgun?" I suppose I'd have to say Junior is worse, but not by much. Reagan looks like a towering statesman next to Bush, but then Bush is so bad I'd bring back Nixon to replace him were such a thing possible.

10. Reagan was worse
Why?

Under Reagan, trickle-down economics found an official outlet.
Under Reagan, the draconian war on drugs started in earnest, with the infamous Big Five dangerous drugs being decreed by executive order.
Under Reagan, the Republican Party found its voice.

He started it all. I blame him. Chimpy is just reaping what Reagan sowed, in my opinion.

11. Raygun was worse
I lived through the 12 years of Repuke rule that came down because of Raygun and his popularity as America's favorite idiot son of the day.

This is what Dems forget as they bash the 80's in general because of the Raygun love and exalt the 90's with its rise of the Repuke revolution.

We had the congress.

Raygun and his cronies would have been and tried to be worse than even the mighty shrub.

What stopped him? The Dems in congress did.

Tip O'Neil and the Dem congress stopped him every chance they got.

I know that as long as we have a Dem president we can all watch the fall of Congress into the pit of hell with a stupid ignorant grin on our faces but this is what happens when we do that.

The Repukes cheat and suddenly you get a Repuke prez and a Repuke congress and you are f*cked. During the Clinton years we did not focus as a party or as a progressive movement on getting back the Congress the way we should have. Nope.

We were too busy screwing around and arguing about how the Dems had gotten too conservative with the Clintons and how best we could sit in the big tent circle jerk ignoring the reality of conservative media consolidation while putting guns to each other's head. It is good to masturbate in a huge circular firing squad because we had the presidency. Yeah that is the ticket.

We have to focus on how to take back the Congress and how to fire up a grassroots progressive message that will appeal to the people.

12. Think about it: If there was No Ronald Reagan......
it would be highly doubtful that there would have been any Bush's in the White House.

Seriously.....

So some checks and balances were still in place.

bush picked up where he left off and is continuing the descent into hell at warp speed. God help us all.

18. I think over time
people have softened their opinions on Reagan just a little, and the result is that Bush is considered worse. I think they're both awful, and choosing between them impossible.
