If you enjoy music as music, film as film, beer as beer...well, you get my point.

You who think you do know better? You are not better than me. You prove it with your my opinion uber alles attitude.

Sanity check. This stuff is meant to entertain, and if it changes public opinion along the way, More power to it.

I don't particularly care for Rap/HipHop for myself...although I admit to liking Eminem and that song "Get Low" by I have no idea who, because...just because.

I like movies. I like music. I like beer, people and books. :hi:

32. MGD is the new beer for beer snobs
well, at least for grown-ups, if the new ad they showed at the Oscar is any indication  (disclaimer: not making fun of MGD, just their advertisements equation of switching to MGD with buying a house, etc.)

10. I like being open to new things. No guarantee I'll like it, but I'll try.
What I won't do is call you names or accuse you of horrible things because you don't share my taste for hot okra pickles, for instance.

13. Thank you, MrsGrumpy.
I'm gonna ask this question of every so-called progressive who starts with the whole "I know better than _you_" thing about art and music: "Are we a Big Tent? Or a Country Club?"

There is no reason on earth why _anyone_ should have to defend their tastes art and music bullies and snobs. :grr:

P.S.

14. Here's a thought
I'm a definite snob about all the things you mentioned because I generally prefer quality over quantity.

Hence - I like all sorts of food, but don't eat in fast 'food' chains - they are part of big agribusiness. I buy my vegetables and meat from local producers, and try to eat organic. The only things we buy at the super market are olive oil, canned tomato sauce and the occasional duck breast.

Beer - well, it is a matter of personal taste, but I lived in the UK for ten years and really developed a taste for good English bitter. Not too cold, so I can taste it. And again, when I drink beer it's from the guys up the road in Kensington or the brewery in Delaware. I stay away from the big winemakers as well. Mostly French or Italian wine - the prices are great right now because they have a damn wine lake and I feel it's my responsibilty to keep it from breeching the levee.

Film - well, I'll watch almost any thing that they put up on the screen, after it's out of the theaters. Not paying cash to go watch most of the crap that's out there.

Music - Been listening to a lot of stuff for a lot of years. Not fond of emo or heavy metal or Toby Keith or Christian rock. But I do like a good choir singing Bach masses.

Someone should probably turn us in.

Rare is it that I go to the theater not because of crap, but because it's too expensive even if Zeus himself was on the screen. :hi:

Hiphop IS music, "Brokeback Mountain" lost the Best Picture oscar because of aesthetics and not politics, and Whatever anyone else decides to put in their ears, eyes, and mouth is none of my fucking business.

Except for anime. That shit is dumb.

24. To me
it's all about definitions.

If I define rap as 50 Cent and Eminem, yeah, I hate rap.

But I do like Cyprus Hill, Jurassic 5, and some Public Enemy.

But I PREFER cheap beer (except for Lebatt Blue :9), i like (most) books, and (most) movies

26. I take issue with one part...
"This stuff is meant to entertain"

In a lot of cases, maybe. But art is NOT about entertainment at all. Good art is rarely entertaining, actually. Good art should be poignant. Good art can be very disturbing. Good art should make the audience work.

I'm sorry, it just drives me nuts when people only watch movies, listen to music, or read books just to be entertained.

Well, except for the beer thing... I prefer wine. So maybe that makes me kind of a snob, but not really, cause that's just what I prefer. But when I do drink beer, it's usually Miller Lite.... so doesn't that make me the opposite of a snob, right there?
