  2. Princess Mononoke
  3. Ghost in the Shell
  4. Akira
  5. Unbreakable

28. Does Unbreakable count?
It wasn't a comic book first; it was about comic books. But I agree that it was excellent.

If that's allowable, then I'd say:

1. Unbreakable
2. Batman Begins
3. Spiderman II

I'd also say that every copy of Daredevil should be ground up by a bulldozer and Ben Affleck should be forced-fed the shards.

34. I think Unbreakable should be an allowed exception.
I mean, it's not a comic book adaptation but you can't deny that it's a comic book movie, even if it goes about being a comic book movie in a highly unconventional fashion.

41. Unbreakable was too damned good to dismiss.
But I absolutely agree about Daredevil.

What the hell made them pick Ben Affleck?
And Murdoc is a DEFENSE attorney, so what was he doing prosecuting a criminal case in the beginning of the movie?
Could they advertise the NY Post any MORE often in that movie?

:grr:

6. The Incredibles
even though it was never an actual comic book. It's a better Fantastic Four movie than the Fantastic Four movie was.

Hellboy was really good, and easy to follow for someone who never read the comic.

Sin City should have been called Shit City.

Bryan Singer is not working on X3, and the advance buzz is that it's kind of a stinker.

10. And that is why I would rather wait for it to go on DVD
and rent it than waste money at the theatre. I've heard the same thing too and it's too bad because the original comic book characters have so much in them and alot of potential.

13. FOX/Marvel really dropped the ball here.
Warner Brothers/DC really raised the bar with the release of Batman Begins. Rather than increasing the quality of their movies to stay in competition, they've lowered the quality (some of the advance buzz indicates this is deliberate on the studio's part). They're in danger of killing what could have been a promising franchise.

I know I could come up with a better script.. not that I am bragging. I love comic books but yes, they really are killing them with these movies.

BTW am I the only one who enjoyed the Fantastic Four movie? It was nowhere near cannon but it was a pleasant diversion for me nonetheless. Plus Sue Storm was smoking. :)

40. FF is a nice fun movie
Edited on Wed Mar-08-06 10:20 AM by DanCa
It's definitely not Fantastic Four cannon but if you just want to watch a movie and have fun while watching super heroes than it does the trick. I have nothing against angst mind you it's just I prefer light hearted action than all this dark and gritty stuff that we've been getting lately. That's just me though and I am not knocking anyone who has a difference of opinion.

Princess Mononoke, oh yes.
American Splendor, definitely.

But why do so many movies based on comics suck? And will V for Vendetta be the first non-atrocious Alan Moore adaptation?

I would love, love, LOVE to see a good movie based on Love & Rockets. Or Sandman. Or any of Will Eisner's New York stories. But I'm not holding my breath.

I notice nobody's mentioned Constantine. There's a good reason for that. :P

Honestly, I think it would work better as a limited run soap opera on TV.
