American Idol - my thoughts on tonight
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 09:14 PM by mvd
Mandisa stole the show! That performance convinced me that not only does she have the best voice in American Idol history, but she could be one of the greats! (she's getting 2 votes)

Katharine McPhee recovered from last week with a strong performance. It showed that she loosened up. (she's getting a vote)

Lisa Tucker was good, but she can do better.

Melissa McGhee was better than before (the result of a good song choice.) She's still not in my top 5 women, though.

Kinnik Sky had a below average performance.

I love Paris Bennett, but that song didn't allow her to shine. (still giving her a vote)

Ayla Brown picked a song I was pleasantly surprised with, but she didn't sing it with the personality of a Natasha Bedingfield. She ended pretty well, I thought.

Kellie Pickler had the same problem with her song as Patrick did on his Melissa Etheridge song - she didn't have the right vocals for it.

Finally, I thought it was rude for Simon to say so soon that he likes Kellie more than Carrie. Even though he could be right.

2. Mandisa was awesome
I thought everyone else was average, at best.

I love Paris, but if she doesn't start singing the right songs, she will be going home sooner rather than later.

The whole playing dumb thing with Kellie is growing old and tired.

Kinnik was awful. She's almost certain to be leaving tomorrow.

Lisa is cute, but her runs are the worst. When she's coming down off of notes, she ends up flat as a pancake-- very unappealing to me.

Melissa was okay, I thought she did better than Simon gave her credit for. She may be leaving because she didn't have the same visibility as the rest of the remaining contestants.

Ayla should stick to singing ballads, because that was not very good. However, I think she may stick around for one or two more weeks.

Katherine was one of my favorites in the beginning, now I'm not so sure. Her voice started giving out on her towards the end of that song. She's another one that has to watch her transitional notes because sometimes they end up flat.

3. Well, at least we agree about Mandisa

Overall, I thought it was a strong night. As far as Katharine goes, I could hear a couple times where she struggled to keep on key. But the strong parts were very strong. I think she'll sail through, and good thing, because I have a big crush on her.

7. Metoo... as I was sitting in my LR lusting after a 19-year-old kid
I thought to myself: "Thank the gods I don't believe in Hell, 'cause I'd sure be burning it it for all eternity..."

I'm still under 30, so I don't feel guilty. :hi:

I look young myself.

5. My opinion
Mandisa was the best by far... then Kellie and Katharine. I am not impressed by Paris.

Kinnick and Melissa will go home.

8. Yes, I think it's pretty clear that..

Kinnik and Melissa are going home. Even though I thought Melissa's performance was a bit better than Ayla's. Ayla's contemporary song choice alone might get her some votes.

6. Mandisa gave me chills
And that does not happen often. Since I teach music for a living I can be a tough critic,
even on the couch. She was the best I have heard in a long time!
