Why does my cat do this?

At 8:00 pm every night I work I get up, Paul runs me a bath, and I jump in the tub. I'm not in there 10 seconds (sometimes I'm not even sitting down) and Cider will come into the bathroom and sit on the side of the tub until I'm in position. Then he'll stand on my leg and drink the bath water. Doesn't matter if it's too hot for me, he laps it up.

I've put him back on the floor before he gets to the water but he jumps right back up. He won't go away until he's had his bath water.

And I'm the only one he does it to. If Paul is in the tub Cider couldn't care less. Just me. Always me.

Is he just psycho or do I just taste that good?

.....good enough for you is good enough for him. It might also be the only time he thinks he can get your undivided attention.

I had a cat that would set on the side of the tub every time I took a bath and take his own brand of a bath. Yes, he would lick himself from head to toe while I took my bath. I was the only person in the house of 4 that he would do this to/with. After trying unsuccessfully to figure out what the cat was telling me I simply started praising him - when he was finished bathing - for being "a pretty kitty". The more I praised him the more and longer he bathed each time. He was simply after my approval I guess.

So try praising him for being a good kitty and maybe he'll probably be happy.

8. I really don't think that behavior is all that unusual.

Cats by nature are finicky. Some time ago we had two cats, two sisters from the same litter, neither of them would take water out of a bowl. Usually, after dinner, when someone was washing dishes, one or both of them would jump up on the counter by the sink and start meowing. They would not leave until you turned down the faucet so they could lap it up directly.

One of these cats used to sleep in this big earthenware bowl and would NEVER sleep anywhere else. The other would sleep anywhere she could get comfortable.

and I suspect that it's not about drinking the water so much as trying to 'groom' it off of you, so that you don't have to be exposed to that 'icky water stuff.'

He doesn't stand lifeguard over my husband, even though he's lived with Mr. P for all of his life, and me for only six years. And he doesn't groom my husband, either.

We had a big tub a few years ago and one fell in. She doesn't get that close now but she is still a voyeur. I think the just want to be with you and water and salty skin are the ticket.O8) I love kitties.

20. My cat's crazier than your cat.

Stinker is an 8 year old, neutered male. About 6 weeks ago he started feeling his oats and developed a 5 minute ritual at bedtime that involves humping the Hudson Bay blanket. He only does it at a specific time of day and only on this blanket. It was kind of annoying at first, but I figured what the hell. The cat sleeps well afterward.:smoke:

24. I have a cat who always talks to me when I take a bath

If I get in the tub, he will walk around the tub and just start talking to me. He also does a lot of head bumping. He might jump off the tub and start talking on his way out but if I echo his talking, he comes back and does it all over. I think it's just a sign of affection but why he gets affectionate and talkative when I'm in the tub is beyond me.

Whenever I strip off and take a shower or a bath, our cat chews on my used underwear. Til they're a sodden-with-cat-spit mess. I keep telling him he's a twisted little pervert and is going to hell, but will he listen?

29. Quinn will perch on the edge of the tub and danle his huge fluffy tail in

the water. The funny thing is he honestly doesn't realize it's wet until he gets up to walk away and realizes it's heavier than it should be. He'll get this shocked look on his face, then chase his tail around in circles trying to find out why it's wet. Then he goes and pouts in a corner while he dries it.

30. I have one that gets into the shower with me...

but he stays out of the spray. I have to shut him out of the bathroom if I want to shower alone. :)

I have two others, who dip their paws into their water dish and lick it off. Very ineffective if you ask me... but whatever. I love them for their little quirks.

Cider is sharing quality time with you. Standing on your leg is showing that he trusts you. Cats make habits out of activities they like - this is something you guys are doing together and to him that is a touchstone of his day.
This is a good thing.
