1. 16 men on a dead man's chest...
Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum.

I've never understood if that was on a dead man's article of luggage, or on a part of his anatomy.

2. I think it means his coffin, but he won't be missed. "Drink to the devil"
But I'm just guessin'

3. Probably right.
I don't think you could get 16 men on a steamer trunk, or on a guy's chest.
Be a tight fit for a coffin, but doable.

7. That would be his sea-chest.
And the "on" would be like rats "on" a cheese. The surviving pirates are splitting up the swag (including personal possessions) after a bloody fight (possibly over a "flimsy shift") among the crew:
"And they lay there that took the plum,
With sightless glare and their lips struck dumb,
While we shared all by the rule of thumb,
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!"

No coffins involved:
"We wrapped 'em all in a mains'l tight,
With twice ten turns of a hawser's bight,
And we heaved 'em over and out of sight".

8. Right. No coffins on the ship. Just a canvas shroud.
Except Moby Dick?

9. A coffin wouldn't be out of the question
for the captain (or other VIP) of a whaler, merchant, etc, so that they could be buried at home (but they'd get pretty ripe) -- although the rum barrel was also used (and secretly drained by seamen).

But a pirate would be expecting either the rope -- or the deep (like the ordinary seaman).

6. Chicken in a bread pan picken' at dough
And he played Fire on the Mountain
Run boys, run
The devil's in the House of the Rising Sun
Chicken in a bread pan picken' at dough
Granny does your dog bite
No child, no
