This will BRIGHTEN your day....literally.....1901 Light Bulb...still on!
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 04:36 PM by Gloria
A few days ago on PBS there was a film on Livermore, CA...showing how the town developed and some of its little quirky historical points... a totem pole, a lost time capsule.....and a delightful vignette on the world's longest burning incandescent LIGHT BULB!!

Well, I check out the town's website and lo and behold, there is the "Centennial lightbulb" still burning in the firehouse! Check out the site and the LIVE CAM of this wonderful little light bulb!!!! The photo galleries at the bottom of the page are fun, too! They have lots of shots of the bulb from different angles, too....LOL

For those without the time here's a pic.....

1. Well, theoretically, if you get the vacuum seal right on the bulb
it should burn indefinitely, but then how would GE, Sylvania etc make money? Planned Obsolescence my friend.

2. No stress of off/on because it is always on!

3. I had a ten year run once
The 60 watt bulb in my bedroom lasted for nearly 10 years. Totally bizarre, the thing kept going year after year, until one day, it just did'nt turn on.

4. Odd story. I once moved and the movers took all the bulbs.
When I got to new place and unpacked I had all these used bulbs. I thought it was pretty funny. They had to get up to the ceiling to get some of the bulbs and they did it.
