Scariest movie music?
THE scariest, in my opinion, the original "Psycho."

Never listen to the shower music at 2 am. :scared:

3. "Taxi Driver" has scary music as well.
Of course, Bernard Herrmann also did the score for "Psycho."

5. From Citizen Kane to Taxi Driver
Bernard Hermann was a god!!

I think Taxi Driver may be the greatest score ever. The fluid way he could move from one of the seetest love themes right into something truly malevolent.

Although I wasn't quite born when Psycho came out I was lucky enough to see it for the first time in a theater. The traveling theme creates great suspense and I swear the "slashing" theme will lift most people an inch out of their seats. :-)

I am also fond of John William's theme from The Fury. I even think it may be better than some of the other themese he did in the 70's and became more famous for. Except for Jaws. That damn thing just worked too well. :-)

4. 2001, A Space Odyssey
Gyorgi Litegi. Never has a series of atonal "eeeeeeeees" caused so much cephalic carnage.

Runners up:

Exorcist (Mike Oldfield and Penderecki OH YEAH)
Original TSM music

6. Ligeti was also used in The Shining
And yeah, he writes some damn spooky music.

I think I am too much of a fan of Tubular Bells (been listening to the album since 78) to hear it the same way today but it was quite good in The Exorcist.

7. That's my second favorite album of all time.
I've gone to sleep to that album about 5 or 6 thousand times and am still amazed that an 18-year-old wrote those two pieces.

10. Exorcist- as much for the music as for the LACK of music. Sixth Sense also
I find most current horror films tend to rely too much on music and not enough on tension.

Sixth Sense makes good use of the music as well.

We're musicians in my house, so Mr kt and I always notice the music used in films. Sometimes terrible music choices can ruin an otherwise ok film. For example, Ladder 49 wasn't so bad, but that ridiculously sappy music montage at the end was just plain silly. Ruined it for me.
