Any City of Heroes/Villians players here?
I found an free "Bootleg Edition" install package at Best Buy that comes with a two-week trial, and I'm gonna start up tonight after class, during which I'll be downloading the patches. Is there anybody here now that plays the game? What do you think about it? What should I expect to get out of the first two weeks of playing?

I've been a player for a year and a half. Choosing your character's archetype (class) is probably the most important decision you can make. There are five different types including the Brute, Dominator, Mind Stalker, Corrupter and Mastermind. The Mastermind is able to summon various zombies, ninjas and robots to do his bidding. All of the skills are fairly well balanced but if you want my opinion, go for the class with ranged abilities as opposed to melee.

1. team play is best because it makes it easier to gain points which is how you gain levels and powers. teams are limited to 8 players but if 2 of them are masterminds and they have 2 henchmen that now makes a team of 12.

2. try to join a supergroup. supergroups can create bases from which to launch missions or raids.

3. don't be shy about letting peeps know you're a newbie and you're learning the ropes

4. as with any game there are assholes who will never understand how to play and will take a advantage of lower level peeps. For instance a fellow member of my sg did a trial with a group. Just as the trial was about to end the leader kicked everybody from the team and only he got the rewards and points.

2. I'm not a *complete* MMO newb (anymore)
I've been playing Matrix Online for the past few months. It's a pretty good game, but it's just not very deep aside from the ongoing storyline and I'm beginning to get bored with it.

- Mastermind sounds like the most fun of those classes.

- Is a supergroup similar to a guild or faction in other games? If so, I know of the importance already. I'm in a superb MxO faction, and it's really the only reason I'm still with the game.

- Have you tried City of Villains as well?

4. I play both
I have 4 heroes and just 1 villain. The sg is the same thing as a guild. Once you join an sg you will have another costume with sg colors to change your look when fighting in sg mode. The sg also gains infamy (game currency) whenever you're fighting in sg mode. The neat thing about CoV/CoH is that it costs only $15 to play both.

Back when the game was good. Before the huge changes made in the last couple of revisions that were made without much thought. When City of Villains was pre-ordered by many people and then they got caught with this "Enhancement Diversification" stuff that they said was in the works for 6 months. Funny how they only mentioned it after someone in the closed beta blabbed. And by then it was too late for most people to cancel their orders for CoV. Before the number of people in my supergroup went from about 50 or so to about 20 or so. Before more and more missions became a "must have a team" when there were only a few people in the zone and none of them were my level.

You know, back when the game was fun.
