So - help me out with a money quandary, please
I have a cell phone, and it's a nice one, but it isn't bluetooth. I also don't have a landline. So I've been using a headset with the phone because holding it to my head is a pain in the ass.

However, the boom of the headset fell off, is lost, and the manufacturer doesn't sell replacements (even though the headset is designed so that the boom is removable and switchable and replacable - talk about a brilliant strategy!).

So, I can either buy another headset for $40, and risk breaking/losing that fucker again, or go for the Motorola RAZR and Bluetooth headset for about $230, which is what I really want and what I probably should have just bought when I got rid of my land line.

Still, it's a lot of money, and there are other things I could spend that money on, like a turntable or ceramics or artwork, or somethin'. But given that I *do* spend a fair amount of time on the phone, the bluetooth is VERY attractive.

1. Oh, I thought you WANTED a money quandry
I was going to offer you one of mine.

I can't offer you any advice on this one - I will never have enough disposable income to spend that much on a phone. ~sigh~

2. send me $190 and buy the $40 headset
I'll invest half of the $190 and after you die, I will give it plus interest to your heirs or the charity of your choice.

4. Does the Bluetooth have a warranty? It could break as easily
as a new headset. I'd just spend a little more on a better headset and adapter (made for non-Bluetooth phones, but still wireless).

5. No offense, but I think those Bluetooth things are bizarre.
They remind me of the Borg, on Star Trek: "Do NOT resist. You MUST be assimilated." I don't like 'em AT ALL. But hey, that's just me. To each, their own....

I can certainly understand the convenience factor, though. Esp. if you don't have a land line. I use a headset on my landline phone all the damn time since I'm usually multi-tasking. I use an earpiece thingie on my Mortorola cell when I drive and talk. It fits over the earlobe and, admitedly, a couple of times the plastic piece that fits over the earlobe has broken, but the hubby's been able to order replacement parts online somewhere. He got a few of them at the same time, so when it happens again, we'll be ready. :eyes: Not sure of the exact brand, but I could find out. I suppose it could be argued the down side to those particular headsets are the long, cumbersome cords that get in the way....hence, the value of the Borg-ish phone.

Whatever. As long as it works, I'm happy.

Good luck deciding how to spend your money! :hi:

6. If you do get the bluetooth
please don't wear it all the time and talk to someone in person while you are wearing it. We can't tell if you are talking to us or on the phone!

I think you should spring for the razr.

9. I have that exact combo...
and love it. I use the bluetooth for dirving and it is very convenient. Lots of "mini" features on the bluetoooth that makes making calls even easier and safe. Sound is excellent in both directions.

Here's the one I have with my RAZR

It's sweet. And yes I agree with Divameow77 it's weird seeing people talking to no one until you see the bluetooth.

10. I was looking at the Plantronics headset tonight -
I went to get the motorola, but the cell store was out, so I need to wait. And yes, this means I've made the decision to go ahead. :-)

The new plantronics headset is very small, has an actual piece that goes into the ear (which I need), and fits together like a pen with a clip that can go in the pocket, and is REALLY light.

It's about $30 more than the other headsets, but what the hell, might as well get good when one is getting.
