Was I mean to salesman?
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 02:03 PM by atomic-fly
I was looking at computers at Best Buy when
a salesman approaches.
*hi I'm so and so, shakes hand, what's your name?*
I said that's alright I'm just looking.
*i still want to know your name*
I'm not ready to commit to anything...backing away from him.
I kind of made a bee line for the exit after that.
I just felt like my space was being violated, but the
guy was friendly and I felt a little bad by my reaction to him.

1. You did right.
It's a common sales tactic. Once they know your name they create a false sense of intimacy that helps with high pressure sales tactics.

2. Wow, I always go to Best Buy and I never had anything like that happen.
Can I help you?, No I'm just looking. Let me know if you need help. That's it.

5. "I still want to know your name"- WTF?!
Since when does a salesperson at Best Buy have the right to demand that you identify yourself? You didn't do ANYTHING wrong in your reaction.

If that had been me, I would've replied "Well, I STILL want to be left in peace. It looks like neither one of us is getting what we want."

7. You shouldn't have backed away.
You should have turned and marched.

8. Eww. I would have done the same.
I don't like giving my name to sales people. As far as I'm concerned, when you say "I'm just looking", that means they should find another customer to question.
