Is it ok to refuse someone a freecycle item because of ignorance?

Seriously - if I offer something, and some fuckwad braindead piece of shit sends an email like "Yep ill take it", is it okay if I hold off until someone literate and/or polite asks for it, and then let the literate and/or polite person have it?

Or is that somehow a desecration of the "liberal mantra" to expect people to actually act like a human being?

1. I would wait for somebody who can at least attempt to be literate and

polite. In my experience people whose emails make it sound like they're doing you a favor by coming to get your item continue that attitude in person, with no-shows, rescheduled or late pick-ups, etc.

2. Humor and turns of speech don't always come across right in email

If you aren't comfortable with them, wait a day or two and see if you get another offer - they won't know who answered first. But it's not worth getting angry over, calling them names like "piece of shit". It might just be a person's style. (See jokes about people from New England)

Remember, you're both doing each other a favor on freecycle, and preventing something from going to a landfill.

4. You should only give it to those you feel like givig it to.

Otherwise the spirit in which you meant to give it won't be there. Hold off until someone you think is grateful enough emails you.

My freecycle site recommends that you don't automatically give the freeby to the first person who responds. And I'd say your reasons for not doing so are more than adequate.

you have sole discretion about who you allow over at your house to pick up an item, if i got a bad vibe off a potential freecycler i do not offer the item to that person, i would withdraw the item first

definitely put the literate polite person first, they are coming over to your home, you know!

besides a lot of times the slobs won't even show up when they say, so don't waste your time w. obviously identifiable slobs

and me, as a personal matter, i don't give to the person who always has a sob story posted either
