Does anyone think this is a tad odd?
I just got finished babysitting. While I like the kids alright, sometimes babysitting can be a bit tedious. The woman who hires me has three kids and tonight one of the girls, Sami, had a friend over.

So it's getting late and the girls want to watch a movie. I figure it might calm em down a bit, so I let him and then get back to playing blackjack with the 11 year old. Well, they're picking out a movie and Sami suggests Harry Potter. And her little friend says, "My mommy won't let me watch that, she says its wicked." Well, Sami's an argumentative kinda kid, so she whines and says she really wants to watch it. I step in at this point and say no, because i just didn't want this girl's mom getting all mad. A few minutes later, the girls find another one, I can't remeber what movie, but she says "oh that's a good movie, my mommy let's me watch it all the time."

My point is: this was one of the parents' movies. It was rated R! If this mother has some repulsion to Harry Potter, wouldn't she have something against sex and swear words?

Fundie logic, I guess.

3. Yep, blowing people up is just fine. Witches and sex, right out.
Can't have it.

Weirdos.

I'd rather my kids watch 24 hours straight of Harry Potter - while sitting on the lawn naked, on each others' laps - than watch (or even read) ten minutes of those Tom Lahaye abominations.

6. Yeah they are screwed up I think
Explains why whenever I hang out with em they wanna play football or somethin violent, and I used to go along with but I dont like it, I hurt myself physically which results in limping and pain. I dont like Harry Potter being not a fan of fantasy but if I was a parent I wouldnt mind letting the kid see it. Now for sex, maybe wait till they were a little older but wouldnt care, my dad always taught me that sex was natural not ugly. Now I watch violent movies admittingy.

11. Yeah, but you're not stupid John
You would never do the violent stuff in the movies. I know people who probably would.

13. I dunno I can be pretty stupid
I found out in DC I had been misprouncing Lyndon Larouche for years, I always said la-roach-e, not la-rouche like it sounds French, I said it all wrong. Plus theres probably more of those heh. Thanks, I was just knocking myself, I dont know why they prefer the physical stuff to other, like do they really think I have much desire to play football late at night, explains why I have been not hanging out with them.

4. You hit the nail on the head. Many fundamentalists detest Harry Potter
because of the magic element. To them, it is supernatural, and hence, satanic. The fact that it is fiction is irrelevent. The Wizard of Oz is another example of censoring their children.

But I also agree with the hypocrisy of these parents having no problem with an "R" movie with profanity and sex. I guess Jesus wouldn't mind that latter choice . . .

16. Fundies are freakish
I mentioned before that my ex girlfriend's brother used to be president of the Ill. moral majority AND a fundie pastor.
They were visiting over at the parents house on holiday and Ben Hur was on (the Charlton Heston version). When the dancing girls were on (a small, insignificant scene), the fundie parents made them change the channel. They would also make them change channels if a beer commercial came on. They loved sports so they probably wore out many remotes!
Freaks.

10. "Fundie logic" -- oxymoron.

O8)

It doesn't surprise me in the least. I went to a Baptist college, where anything dealing with magic, witchcraft, spell-casting, etc., was seen as purely and exclusively satanic. (I also had to sign a contract before I was admitted, stating I wouldn't go to movies or theatre, wouldn't dance or go to rock concerts, wouldn't listen to secular rock & roll or "hard" "Christian" rock & roll, wouldn't play with a standard 52-card deck, etc.)

18. When I was in art school many years ago
One of my friends got ahold of an application to Falwell's Liberty College (or is it university?).
They actually asked if you had ever taken any drugs! We answered YES, Frankencense and Myrrh. My friend sent it in and never heard a reply.
I am now attending a Moravian college and they don't give a rat's ass.
Fundies are idiots.

12. I am not suprised
I have an uncle who is very, very conservative. He doesn't like movies like "The Matrix" because they aren't very "realistic", and there is too much violence.
That is all well and good, but get this:
One of his favorite movies is Blade. A movie about a comic book character who hunts and brutally kills vampires, and is more often than not covered in blood.

17. Well, we could blame the fundies, but I think you got played by a kid.
You already told her your hot button on movies was "your mom doesn't want you to watch it, and I don't want any crap for letting you watch it."

So all she has to do is say her mom let's her watch it and voila. You got played.
