Is 103 degrees too high a temperature to have? I'm thinking that it's
not, because of all the heating oil we're saving because I can keep the room warm with all the heat I'm throwing off here. Maybe even a couple of rooms. If I set up a fan to blow over me I can spread it all around the house. Yes?

1. Take CARE OF YOURSELF.
If it goes any higher, you need to go on to a doctor or to the ER. Do you have the flu?

2. Or something like it. Dang, it just got cold. Hey, this is almost as much
fun as malaria! Whee!

But no hallucinations, dammit. Where's the entertainment value?

7. Bullshit!
103 is NOT indicative of a simple cold. Much more like a fairly serious dose of flu or pneumonia. (Both of which my dear redstone can conceivably be fatal). For goddess's sake man! Just go see a Dr. Now!

It ain't fucking funny, dude. No matter how many jokes you make. If your temp is already that high, you need professional help. Like, right now.....

Fuck where is Peggy when I need her? She wouldn't think a temp of 103 was anything to laugh about!

Khash.

8. Panic not, my friend. We'll see how it looks in the morning. I'm not
about to go dashing off to any ER-type place in the middle of the damn night. Wouldn't be fair to the other people on the road. I'd no more drive now than if I'd had eleven drinks.

Vitamin-C, chicken noodle soup, TLC from your significant other - the power of touch and positive emotion does wonders and I don't mean sex, either. Love is as much touch and knowing someone cares as it is those XXX activities; even moreso, rather...

5. Whoa no, none o' that X-type stuff tonight, not even one X much less
a triple of those letters; it would take more energy that standing up and I don't have enough to do that right now.

But maybe soon. The rockets just got lit up again - No more shivering. Maybe I should go outside to cool down. Think I will, actually.

Thanks for the advice. I do appreciate it.

16. n.p.

Even the touch of caring hand on the shoulder has natural healing properties, and not in the sexual way. (though there is truth to the song "Sexual Healing" as well... funny how that has more of a negative stigma to it than most FOX sitcoms making sex jokes today...)

4. Careful my friend, you total dumbfuck!
Quit posting you idiot and get to the ER! 103 is dangerous. 104 and you can start hallucinating and risk brain damage.

If you are this sick, you need help. No, seriously, dude. Shut off the computer and ask Mrs Redstone to please take you to the doctor ( or this late the ER).

Would someone back me up? Peggy you're a nurse! Tell him!

you feel better?

I appreciate your concern, I do. What's surprising is how well I'm typing tonight. I usually have to go back and correct about 40% of the words, but not many now.

15. Yes, she is smarter than me but tends to lose her grip easily so I'm
not going to make her panic. Oh, no. Maybe I should just go to sleep? It's a long way upstairs but I bet I can get there before she gets here, whenever that will be.

Sleep. Some (more) Motrin to knock the fever down, no wait, I can't have any more of that or my ears will start to ring (got sensitized to NSAIDS years ago) but the sleep oughta work. Just give me a couple of minutes to consider the stairs. But it's comfortable here. But cold. Damn.

Pretty good typing, though.

10. So is that what Midnight Oil was singing about when they mentioned
things "steaming at 45 degrees?"

I can deal with length measurements in Metric, but temps are another deal.

Entirely.

11. Is your wife with you?
It is good to have someone with you when you are that sick, just in case you get sicker and cannot help yourself. Drink cold fluids and take some tylenol or similiar drug. Take your temperature regularly while you are up. If your wife is with you, have her check on you.
If you have to go to the ER don't hesitate. In a way, going to the ER at night is much better than going during the day. There is usually less of a wait and fewer other patients. Heck, when I awoke to a bad panic attack one night, convinced that I was dying, I ended up having a rather surreal conversation with the ER doctor for what seemed like a long time. I don't think he had any other patients at the time.

13. 103 is pretty high for an adult. DRINK FLUIDS.
Your body is rapidly dehydrating with that kind of fever. That's the biggest danger. Drink as much as you can stand. It will help flush out whatever your body is trying to fight off, too.

Stuffy nose or chest congestion? Any other symptoms?

Be careful, my friend...It might just be a simple viral thing; but it could also be an infection.

23. I give off lots of heat even when I don't have a fever
I often feel cold though because my heat gets away from me. When I go outside when it is windy, I am always freezing because my heat is blowing away from me. When I get into bed, I warm the bed up so much that my husband can barely stand to sleep with me. Even when I am by myself, I usually don't sleep that well because I am constantly covering and uncovering to regulate the temperature.

24. Since you insist on waiting until morning...
take a tepid water bath to help bring the fever down. Am sure (at least would think you are wise enough) to be taking Ibuprofen or same such.

Here are some other things and info:

One should get concerned when temperature raises above 102 degrees Fahrenheit for an adult and 103 degrees Fahrenheit for children. Often, having high temperature is helpful for the body; it's the way the body acts to destroyharmful microbes. In an adult temperatures under 103 degrees fahrenheit encourage the body to create more immune cells. A fever of 104 or higher can be a risk for people with cardiac problems, since it accelerates the heart beat and makes it work harder, and can cause irregular rhythms, chest pain or even hard attack. When a person has had a fever over 106 degrees for a long period of time, can cause dehydration and brain damage.

Although vigorous exercise, in which the muscles generate heat faster than the body can dissipate it, can cause a temporary rise in temperature.

We recommend:

Drink as much water as you can in order to replace fluid loss. It will also help to bring down body temperature.

Rest as much as possible.

Avoid suddenly changes in atmospheric temperatures.

Avoid eating solid foods until the fever is gone. You can replace the foods by drinking plenty of distilled water and/or juices.

When you have fever do not take any supplement containing either iron or zinc. Taking iron causes great tension in a body that is fighting infection; and zinc is not absorbed by the body when you have fever.

Take cool bathes, fill a bath tub, submerge and lay down for 5 minutes approximately. Repeat as needed until the fever is down.

If the fever does not exceed 102 degrees let it run its course. It helps the body to fight infection and eliminate toxins.

When a child has fever do not give them aspirin, instead try to reduce the fever with cold baths.

25. OK, OK, you win, I'm going upstairs to bed. that'll be an adventure.
Mrs R can deal with whatever she finds when she gets here.

And do not, repeat NOT tell CalPeggy about this, or I'll never hear the end of it. she might even call and blow the whistle on me, because I told Mrs R go ahead and go out tonight, I'd be fine, which I am. Really. OK? Mrs R works hard and deserves to go out and have some fun without having to worry so let's not ruin it for her, deal?

Hey, this is like having too much to drink, but warmer (but then colder) and a lot cheaper. but it's still not near as entertaining as malaria.

Thanks, guys, I gotta go. Should be some interesting dreams tonight.
