Toys that are extinct
One toy I remember from my childhood was Colorforms. Little plastic cutouts of cartoon characters that were applied to a plastic screen to create little dioramas. I had Popeye, but there were also lots of Disney character Colorforms available. I don't think they are made anymore, hence the "extinct." Any toys from your childhood that are no longer made?

2. Clackers. I still have mine. I'm a pro with them.
My mom took them away from me when I was about 10, because my brother and I fought with them. She gave them back to me recently, and now I'm teaching MMjr to clacker.

3. I remember clackers!
I was good at them! There also later was a thing that was a ball on a stick that hooked around your ankle and you jumped over it as it went around and around. Don't remember what it was called.

YES. I WAS GREAT AT THAT, TOO!

Thanks for that memory. Did you have any Romper Stompers? They were basically quart-sized plastic yellow cups, turned upside down, with green plastic strings that came up to your thighs--and you would hold them and walk around on them.

This is an excellent thread.

7. I didn't have any Romper Stompers, but
I knew someone who did. I think you can still get those, though the name is probably different. Also, what about Socker-Boppers?

16. Clackers were also known as
Knockers.

But I guess that was a bit too... well, something.

:silly:

8. Chatty Cathy.

Pull her string, she talks (in a voice that sounds like Laura Bush raised her.....)

10. Oh NO! They don't make Chatty Cathy anymore?
I always like them after the record inside got screwed up, and you would pull the string and hear rasping or maybe slowed down phrases like a record played on the wrong speed. What about Chrissy, the doll whose hair you could cut and them pull more out from her scalp?

13. Is that the one who ate baby food and pooped?
I was a little too old when she came out.

14. No, she just took a bottle and peed.
I got mine in 1970. I loved that doll. I still have it, too.

I kept many of my dolls, just in case I had a daughter...well, I had a son, so I guess I'll hang onto them just in case I have a grandaughter.

15. I'm a Fisher-Price collector.
I can't HELP myself.

Barbie, Chattie Cathy and Mary Poppins dolls were great but Fisher-Price are the best.

They're just this close to the world of handmade toys.
