It was good to get away from the puter for a couple of hours. I veged out on the couch and watched Much Ado About Nothing (the big winner in the "Help Velma pick a chick flick" poll).

I didn't cry, but it was still good and I feel better. :-)

the young man who plays Unclas in Last of the Mohicans. Yummy...love that hair. But I have to admit some of the scenes with Daniel Day Lewis and Madeleine Stowe are the hottest thing I've seen with people still fully clothed. Wow.

And it wasn't that I didn't want to see him - the people spoke. :-)

I guess the Braaaaaaahhhhhnagh verson... (That's how I always imagine him saying his own name ;) )

It's got a great opening sequence, but I really detest that film for reasons, well, it becomes a sterotype in people's minds and everytime I go to a production that isn't set in 1870's, I inevitably here, "What??? This concept is strange, this isn't Much Ado..."

Too many people figure if you don't do it the way the movie does, it's a worthless piece of crap....

14. VelmaD, what did you like best?

I saw "Much Ado" a few times in the theater (and Branagh's "Henry V" a couple of times!). Perhaps you could watch "Henry V" for your guy film night, though I'm not crazy about the idea of classifying films based on the guy flick/chick flick system.

Anyway, even though they had to cut a considerable amount of dialogue (Do read the play), I thought it worked very well, especially since the interpretation of Don Pedro (Denzel Washington's part) was so sensitive and Hero (played by Kate Beckinsale) was not the passive little prude of most productions I've seen.

I've seen stage versions of the play, and usually the scene where Don Pedro half-jokingly proposes marriage to Beatrice is a throwaway. Here it's genuinely poignant. Washington generally underplays the character, and both the direction and acting emphasize Don Pedro's loneliness.

Denzel was wonderful. The scene where he proposes to Beatrice makes my heart ache every time I watch it.

I still wish Hero had told Claudio to take a fucking hike though.
