"Savior" is one of the finest movies made anywhere on the planet in the past decade, and it should be required viewing . Some parts will make you shudder in horror, and others will bring you to tears. This tale of the Bosnian civil war brings the whole, strange (for Americans), savage and sordid truths about "ethnic cleansing" straight into your living room via the VCR."
"It is not so bloody or violent as other war movies (e.g. Saving Private Ryan), yet the violent acts that are shown and left to the viewer's imagination are so appalling (the kicking in the stomach of a heavily pregnant Serb woman, the hacking off of an old grandmothers wedding finger for her ring, a baby being thrown from a fast moving car), one is left breathless and suffocated.
In the end one marvels that any Serb, Croat or Bosnian can maintain any humanity amidst what they have to witness and suffer. There is little redemption, but the acting which is totally unsentimental and convincing leaves you thanking God you live in America"
