What is the most recent CD you purchased?

My most recent is "Zion Roots" by Abyssinia Infinite. The driving force and lead singer is the great Ethiopian singer GiGi.

She has assembled a group of Ethiopian and non Ethiopian musicians for her latest CD. I liked her first self titled CD, but this one I love. I could heap all kinds of praise on it, but I won't. All I can say, this CD will blow you away.

If you have never heard Ethiopian music, this CD will be a real treat.

8. "The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter", Incredible String Band

I found it and "5000 Spirits..." for dirt cheap. They also come as a joint set, but this was actually cheaper. Great folkadelic stuff.

although i have to say i'm sorely disappointed. I heard her on the radio doing a live broadcast, it was just her and a guy on an acoustic guitar for accompaniment. I get the CD and it's all electric R2D2 bullshit in the background...

9. I recently got 7-

One of those I had a clue regarding just what it was I was purchasing.

Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk (the only artist of the bunch I was familiar with)

Happy Texas - soundtrack. Never heard of the movie, cd sounded interesting (Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Joan Osbourne, etc) so I ordered it. Haven't listened to it much, but I like it.

Everything - Supernatural. I'm wishy washy on this one. Suprised I knew the "Hooch" song - never heard of the band before. Some really bitchin tunes on the cd - some yawners.

Willie & Lobo - Gypsy Boogaloo. Bitchin! I was expecting some sort of mexican singing - and was suprised. All instrumental, some with a spanish flavor, some celtic flavor - it's a wonderful cd.

Coldplay - Parachutes. Okay, I've heard OF these guys, but hadn't heard them. Haven't listened to the cd much yet, but on first listen think it's "ok". It will probably grow on me.

Beth Orton - Daybreaker. Who IS this chick and how come I've never heard of her??? Cd totally rocks.

Peter Bruntnell - Ends of the Earth. Great cd. Never heard of him before, but he deserves some recognition.

10. The Art of the Fugue: Emerson String Quartet

An excellent rendition of Bach's music played by string quartet. beautifully recorded, excellent sound, and really excellent musicianship.

I highly approve of it. :-)

Last time I bought any CDs I picked up Pearl Jam's Lost Dogs, Neil Young's Greendale, and a bootleg of The Beatles' early Get Back album (rather than Let It Be, Naked, which I was kind of disappointed in the way they compiled). Last LPs I got were a couple of pre-Columbia Willie Nelson albums and the first one by Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show!

On edit: regarding Ethiopian music, I thought Mahmoud Ahmed was da man, but that was 20 years ago.

Lucinda Williams "World Without Tears"

This is one of The Gourds best CDs, but I like just about anything by these guys. The Frog Brigade is always good, how can they not be with the quality of the musicians who play in that band.

IMO this is Lucinda's best album since "Car Wheels on A Gravel Road." I haven't decioded which one of those two Lucinda CDs I like best yet.

My wife also bought Robert Earl Keen's new CD at his concert a few weeks ago. IMO this is his best CD ever. It goes into a more funky direction and I always like to hear a little funk in my music.

Strummer needs no explanation.
the Congos is one of the rootsiest reggae/dub CD's ever with sonic production by Lee Perry from around 1980.

I guess "Fakebook" never came out on vinyl so I finally had to break down and buy the CD. I have the rest of their catalog on vinyl. This really screws up the continuity of my collection. :(
