She had made like five movies in a year. So, nutcake Francis, instead of getting a nother actor, basically forces his daughter to do it.

However, I want to defend Sophia Coppola here: she was NOT horrible in the part. She actually did better than many so-called actresses. Was she great? No. She was mediocre, passable. However, when you're acting with Pacino, Keaton, even Andy Garcis... forget it.

I think Bridget Fonda is as bad as Sophia, and more affected in her acting.

Coppola's performance was bar none the worst I have ever endured, and I've seen Johnny Mnemonic. Every moment she was on the screen was excruciating and frankly I feel her dad shat all over his legacy on this one. Anybody, anybody at all would have been an improvement. Tom Cruise? Brad Pitt? Antonio Banderas? WHAT. THE. FUCK?

All of those actors needed to go. For cliff's sake, Antonio Bandera's character was supposed to be a 15-yr-old redheaded boy! Uh, sure, 40-yr-old Spaniard is close enough because CLEARLY there are no young actors in the world.

For Louis I would have chosen a friend of mine, not that he's an actor or anything. If I'm choosing an actor I would say Daniel Day Louis. For Lestat...I'm not sure. But DEFINITELY NOT Tom fucking Cruise. Maybe Ewan McGregor?

But, there were other choices that were better... I had always thought of Lestat as a bit of a cocky SOB, and Cruise basically plays a cocky SOB in every role.

However, the rest of the movie was poorly cast. I could have done a better job as Louis than Pitt, and I've never acted... at least I have the black hair & green eyes of Louis.

because of the cockiness factor. That's true. But he still sucked at being a vampire. None of the actors have that pasty, fine-boned somewhat androgenous look that I wanted to see. I guess Tom is plasticky enough, but still has too much of a Joe America look to him. Brad and Antonio are both too masculine and look too...warm-blooded for lack of a better term. Maybe that's why I keep thinking of Brits to play the roles, they're properly pasty to play the undead.

Ewan did well in Velvet Goldmine, I guess that's why I thought of him (that, and I adore him).

Cuba Gooding, Jr. (and I agree with you that he'd have been great) is VERY VERY VERY short - it would've taken some very creative camerawork to make him appear even close to Ali's size.
