If that was what we were talking about instead of vice versa. I'm probably going to get griped out for this, but I don't care. It's how I feel. This culture has settled on the falsehood that skinny = healthy. If Annthrax or one of those sisters were to get sick, they wouldn't have anything to fight it off with. Times are achanging however.
Lately I've heard more good looking, sexy dudes talking about how much they like women with meat on their bones and a little cushion to them. I like to hear that. I'm a fat girl, and I've been looked down upon by people who don't even know me my whole life. I also believe that most fat girls have developed personalities because they didn't have a body or looks, according to society, to get them by. I think fat girls are beautiful, and it's not that I don't find skinny women beautiful.
I just think there is more to this life than worrying about my figure. Eating salad for every meal is no way to live your life. I've watched girls here at college do that. And it makes me sad.
One more thing: Our divorce rate is high in this country. Know why? Because our society is so hung up on looks that people marry just for that, and find out that marriage can't last when you don't have anything to talk about, laugh about, or have anything in common you like to do together. One of these days those girls' looks are going to go, and that's all they're going to have left, and in the case of those Hilton sisters, not much is going to be left.

your premise is wrong. you assume that women,these women in particular, are thin because they don't eat. can you say that with all certainty? genetics has a lot to do with it.
you obviously don't know much about starvation either. notice the glow to their hair and skin. no amount of lighting and makeup could help give them that look if they were truly starving themselves.
eventually that kind of abuse to their bodies would begin to show. Their hair would start to fall out,their skin would age rapidly,bones would begin to deteriate including their teeth- they too would lose their shine-etc.,etc.

And that would be a no...Most of what I was speaking of what society. I was judging what other people would say by my experience and society's expectations, and I basically said as much. A lot of the girls I know that are obsessed with their bodies, including my ex roommate who I had to get away from because of it, is so obsessed with her body and her exercise routine, her personality and her ability to carry on a conversation about anything relevant is seriously lacking. I speak from my point of view and from my experience. Thank God you haven't experienced the same stuff. I have. No one ever takes up for larger women. students in a class I teach on art and aesthetics pointed out the picture of the Hilton duo to me. We were discussing eroticism and fantasy and some bright young sparks in the class raised the question as to whether these are our contemporary icons of sexiness, and whose imagination is behind these constructions of female beauty. As on person in the class asked: "what kind of mind would think up this image as sexy?"

As I am also interested in the psychology of Repubs and Democrats, I have been wondering about
whether conservative males have a particular penchant for certain
images of womanhood. Conservative, ultra right males obviously think Ann is gorgeous, while DU males seem to be thoroughly revolted judging by the comments on this thread-- I have even received a kick in the ass for desecrating DU ground with her photo!! sorry about that! :-)
