Sorry, I just have to get this off my chest. It may sound petty and stupid, but it pissed me off for some reason.
I was at work today, hating it as usual, when I comment on a show I'm working on. For clarification, I work in the entertainment business, and our main client is a major network -- we work on their prime-time shows in post-production.
Anyway, I comment on the show I'm working on that airs on this network to my co-worker. I said the show wouldn't be a hit and the network in question wasn't doing so well. She then gave me a certain look -- the evil eye, really.
She says (verbatim), "Don't you know anything?" Now if she said it in a joking manner, it would be fine, but she actually seemed pissed off. Then she says, "It's got the most shows in the Top 20 Nielsen ratings. 'CSI' doesn't put CBS at Number one, (etc). Seriously, don't you read anything?"
Seriously, she had this look on her face like I shot her dog and called her mother a whore.
I said, "Yeah, I read stuff. I read about politics and current events, not this industry shit."
She says, "The quarterlies said (this network) had the highest ratings," as if I was supposed to commit that to memory, as if my life would be illuminated with that nugget of info.
I went out for a smoke break, pondering the situation for some reason. Then I came back in and looked up the top 10 Nielsen ratings. CBS had the most shows in the top 10, but this other network supposedly had the most in the top 20.
I brought that up, and she held firm, seeming, again, pissed off. The ironic thing is that this girl seemed like one of the few cool people at the office and the one non-crazy female (sorry, it's true) there that I had regular contact with.
Of course, she and another female co-worker are TV-obsessed and read all the entertainment blogs, etc. like they were studying the Dead Sea Scrolls.
I have no idea why she flipped out today, particularly since I've always been nice to her -- not complaining when she constantly interrupts me, or her endless snarky comments about her work or her endless barrage of questions. I even ask her if she'd like me to bring back any dinner (night shift) for her whenever I go get some.
I'm so glad I'm moving to NYC in a few months and leaving all this crap behind.
Anyway, that's my rant. Ignore it if you'd like, or not. :)
