Famed actor Sean Connery has undergone surgery to remove a tumor in his kidney. Connery, a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, had actually had the surgery performed weeks ago in a private clinic in New York. He has been recovering at his home in the Bahamas.
James Barron, a spokesperson for Connery, has reported that the former James Bond actor is recovering well. Newsday has quoted Barron as saying, “He's very fit _ he's 100 percent plus”. The Sunday Times, in their interview with the 75-year-old Connery, quotes Connery divulging, “I was opened in five places.”
However, it would appear the proud Scotsman is near to normal form, as he will soon begin working on voiceovers for the Scottish National Party, a pro-independence party. Connery has been a staunch supporter of the SNP, giving support through his name and through his wallet. As well as the SNP, Connery has used his earnings from his various James Bond films to open film schools in Edinburgh and charities for children.
The website for the Scottish National Party has party leader Alex Salmond giving comments on the situation. “It is true that Sean had a successful procedure carried out some weeks ago but he¹s now fighting fit and raring to go - as is shown by his decision to attend some of the Tartan Day celebrations in New York.” Salmond goes on to discuss Connery’s upcoming work with the organization, “We are delighted that he is making the film for us, detailing how Westminster cheated Scotland out of our oil wealth over the last thirty years. It is the sort of politically dramatic subject matter which might change the history of the next thirty years.”
