RIP Maureen Stapleton

LENOX, Mass. - Oscar-winning actress Maureen Stapleton has died, her son said Monday. She was 80.

Stapleton, who won an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in "Reds," had been living in the Berkshire Hills in Lenox.

Her son, Daniel Allentuck, said she died Monday of natural causes.

This woman deserved an Oscar for editing but never received one. See her credits at IMDB -- one of the first women in the profession. Fascinating story there.

She's now in her 80s.

even named their theatre after her. She was a very nice and very real person from what I've heard from those that met her. I remember her in a few movies but must admit Cocoon is the one that came to mind first thing.

I spent an afternoon in Maureen's company at a mutual friend's house -many years ago. She was unpretentious, hilariously funny - and salty. I can still hear her describing childbirth...better still, I can see the contortions as she regaled us.

Talented, warm and oh so human. May Peace be hers.

i followed the links in gd and ended up here so that i could post

im "glad" to see when it lists the cause of death as natural
whatever that means but at least it doesnt seem to be some long drawn out painful death

i always enjoyed - and will continue to enjoy - watching her films
now thats a legacy
