I'm sick and tired of the missing girl press!!!

I am so tired of the national media never giving a damn about places like North Dakota or ... what was it last time, Utah? ... until some girl disappears. Fine. I'm sorry for everyone close to her. But there isn't anything I can do but sit and wait with the rest of you, and I don't particularly like those of you who just came into town the day before yesterday when the media party started, feeding off of pain and anguish like candy. F---ing sadists.

That's not because North Dakota isn't doing anything worthy of news on a national level -- Our senators have been trying to sell the DOD our skies to use for Air Force war games for example.

Since nobody has actually been to (or even heard of) North Dakota but may have been to (or heard of) Montana -- imagine that Big Sky country screaming with jets all the time. Ugggghhh.

And then there's the water!!!

The Missouri River has been falling for years on end -- and Governor Hoeven and his cronies STILL want to tap it for some massive diversion project. They're digging pipe right now. That's just plain stupid, but that's not even the worst of it.

THE WORST PART is the Devil's Lake outlet (a plan to dump water from the supposedly "overflowing" Devil's Lake into the Red River Valley -- where it is not supposed to be going) -- drawing opposition from not just Canada but also Minnesota, and the US STATE DEPARTMENT -- that's right the same one Colin Powell runs -- has sent a "cease and desist" to Hoeven and he hasn't obeyed.

And don't even get me started on the Governor's banking scandals....

10. The Onion did a hilarious story about this a while back--basically the

headline was something about a little black girl being swept off the front page because now a little blonde girl had been abducted. There was a quote from the police chief about how they still hoped the little black girl would be found, but that the little blonde girl was so damn cute.

I think it was around the time Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped.

3. The Water Problem

Recently I read an article linked from the Environmental forum about a water shortage in rainy Britain, of all places. It seems that the scarcity of water will finally be the factor that begins to limit our burgeoning population growth.

I first learned of the prediction of this back in the seventies in Junior High. I saw a film where a scientist predicted routine shortages of water by the beginning of the new century.

Local and regional press is warranted in this case, but I think the national media is going a little nuts over this. I don't think hourly updates on Fox and CNN are going to help much if at all in finding her.

13. I agree; I think part of it is because ND is such a low-violent-crime

state, this is such an aberration that it's getting much more attention than it would elsewhere...
And yes, just like Jessica Lynch, the media jumps on pretty white blonde women and displays them proudly and often...
They even like not-so-pretty, non-blonde white women like Michael Jackson

14. Don't Forget

Laci Peterson and whoever Gary Condit was supposed to be hooked up with...they're not blonde, or really even pretty for that matter, AND they're adults...and look at all the friggin' press THEY got.

For the love of God, WHY is it news to anyone not living on the same block whatever happened to Laci Peterson? The Condit case, maybe, simply because it involved a sitting member of Congress,...and even that should have only been good for a week.

I know the answer, of course...
